STAMPEDERS 6 @ NEEPAWA 5 (OT)
The Stamps trailed twice in the first period, but tied it quickly both times. Beau Taylor made it 1-1 just 1:57 after the Natives opened the scoring, and Colin Baudry scored his first MJHL goal only 28 seconds after Neepawa made it 2-1.
From there, the Stampeders never trailed again.
Anthony Nobili, in his return to Neepawa, banged home a rebound early in the second, but a quick whistle negated his first goal in Swan Valley colours. Jeff Riddell did make it 3-2 Stamps shortly after.
Sam Prpich was a thorn in the side of his former team, tying the game twice, at 3-3 and 4-4. The former Stamp and Yorkton Terriers has three goals in two games against Swan.
After two periods, the Stamps led 4-3 thanks to a Dylan Reimer goal in the final minute.
The third was an eventful one too.
T.J. Fairall made it 5-4 late, but right after a late powerplay, Neepawa's Connor Faupel sent a shot from the point that found it's way through, forcing OT.
In overtime, short-handed, Faupel went end to end on a 1-on-2, split the defense (one of which was a forward), but was robbed on a circus glove save by Patrick Johnson... which kept the Stamps alive, and later led to Mitchell's winner.
Johnson quickly scooped up the puck after the winning goal, as he celebrates his first MJHL win, making 23/28 saves.

SIMMONS SHINES, SHUTS OUT FLYERS IN DEBUT

Russell Turner scored both Wolverines' goals, including an empty-netter.
I found a Cory SIMONS (one 'm') at Eliteprospects.com. I'm thinkin' that's him. (I hope it is, or that picture at the top isn't him!)
The team he played on last year is in a Junior 'B' league in Minnesota.
The Wolverines have now won 3 straight, improving to 9-7-1 on the season.
------------------
The Swan Valley Stampeders fell 6-2 in Dauphin on Saturday.
Dylan Reimer and Riley Hiebert scored third period goals for the Stamps.
Patrick Johnson played goal for Swan Valley, and was backed up by the recently-acquired Alcide Grenier.
Jayson Argue is in Langley, BC, where he's trying to crack the Team Canada West squad that will compete in the World Junior 'A' Challenge starting November 7th.
NATIVES 1 @ STAMPEDERS 3
Former Stampeder Sam Prpich scored for Neepawa against his old team, midway into the third period, but Connor Pennell restored the two goal lead just over three minutes later, for the 3-1 final.
Jayson Argue made 24/25 saves, in his final game before leaving for the World Junior 'A' Challenge selection camp today (SAT). Argue is one of four goalies remaining, fighting for spots on Team West.
Only two will make the club. The WJAC starts November 7th in Langley, BC.

WHL Update

Junior 'A' Rights - Melville Millionaires
Stats: GP (12 of 13) 4g-5a-9p, 4 PIM, +3
Aschim was off to a hot start with the Warriors, and still remains near the top of their scoring chart, but his production has declined in recent games, as he finds himself a little further down on the depth chart, with the return of Quinton Howden, and a recent trade with Calgary that brought in two forwards, and shipped one out.
Austin Bourhis - 1992 F - Prince Albert Raiders

Junior A Rights - Yorkton Terriers
Stats: GP (16 of 16) 0g-1a-1p, 40 PIM, +1
Bourhis is being used at forward in the Western League, but of course he was a defenseman when he shared the Yorkton Terriers rookie of the year award with Brent Struble as a 17-year-old two seasons ago.
Calder Brooks - 1994 F - Calgary Hitmen

Junior A Rights - Melville Millionaires
Stats: GP (6 of 11) 0g-1a-1p, 0 PIM, +-Even
Brooks played on a line with Allen Kilback with the Regina Pat Canadians last season, and you know Jamie Fiesel is salivating at the possibility of putting Brooks on left wing with Kilback and T.J. Reeve, but the Hitmen are still re-building their program after a few dominant seasons, and will likely be patient with their young guys. Brooks may get into a few more games after that deal that saw the Hitmen send two forwards to Moose Jaw.
Levi Cable - 1994 F - Kootenay Ice

Junior A Rights - Melville Millionaires
Stats: GP (10 of 15) 0g-0a-0p, 0 PIM, -4
After leading the Yorkton Harvest in scoring last season, Cable is looking for his first WHL goal and point, on what appears to be yet another competitive defending champion Kootenay team. He has played in two thirds of their games. The Harvest could also be an option for the 17-year-old if the Western League doesn`t pan out this season, but he`s getting his fair share of minutes with the Ice.
Devan Fafard - 1994 D - Saskatoon Blades

Junior A Rights - Melville Millionaires
Stats: GP (6 of 13) 0g-0a-0p 7 PIM, -5
The Millionaires saw so much promise in Fafard that they called him up, at age 16, for part of their playoff series with Estevan. The Blades are easing the 17-year-old into his rookie WHL season.
Jeff Hubic - 1994 D - Kootenay Ice

Junior A Rights - Melville Millionaires
Stats: GP (8 of 15) 0g-0a-0p, 19 PIM, -2
Hubic is not an offensive defenseman, as he didn`t have huge AAA numbers in Tisdale last year, but he`s a big body, and hasn`t been afraid to drop the gloves with older guys in the Western League.
Jens Meilleur - 1993 F - Brandon Wheat Kings

Junior A Rights - Wayway Wolverines
Stats: GP (6 of 13) 0g-2a-2p, 2 PIM, +1
After spending his 16-year-old season in Wayway, Meilleur had his rookie WHL season cut short due to injury last year. Now 18, he really hasn`t been handed a big offensive role, something that looked like might come his way eventually, after scoring 11 goals as a 16-year-old in Wayway.
Evan Morden - 1993 D - Everett Silvertips

Junior A Rights - Swan Valley Stampeders
Stats: GP (14 of 14) 1g-0a-1p, 10 PIM, +- Even
Morden played for his hometown Stampeders as a 16-year-old, and spent all of last season in Everett. The Silvertips are re-building, and Morden`s appeared in every game so far, getting plenty of ice. He also attended Dallas Stars prospects camp in June.
John Neibrandt - 1992 D - Kootenay Ice

Junior A Rights - Yorkton Terriers
Stats: GP (15 of 15) 0g-4a-4p, 10 PIM, +5
Neibrandt spent the 2009-2010 season with the Terriers as a 17-year-old, and went to the SJHL final with them. He played in another league final last year, and won it, picking up a WHL ring with the Ice, and played in the Memorial Cup. In his last game on Wednesday night, Neibrandt was a +3.
Landon Peel - 1994 D - Regina Pats
Junior A Rights - Swan Valley Stampeders
Stats: GP (5 of 14) 0g-0a-0p, 5 PIM, -2
Peel was re-assigned to Swan by the Pats early last season, and wound up being one of their most impressive offensive defensemen. This season, the Pats have 6 veteran defenseman seeing a lot more time than Peel and Nathan Zimbaluk, but they know they need those guys to develop too, whether that means seeing limited time in the Dub, or getting a regular shift in Junior A. Zimbaluk is protected by the Battlefords North Stars.
Damon Severson - 1994 D - Kelowna Rockets

Junior A Rights - Melville Millionaires
Stats: GP (13 of 13) 2g-11a-13p, 16 PIM, -1
I said I wouldn`t speculate, but Damon Severson will never wear Blue & White for his hometown Millionaires. He was an AP for one game as a 15-year-old, but that was his first and last game with the Mils. He had a 5-assist night this month, and is tied for second on the Rockets roster. He can bet on being drafted next June, and I wouldn`t doubt it`s in the first three rounds.
Tayler Thompson - 1993 F - Prince George Cougars

Stats: GP (14 of 14) 2g-2a-4p, 13 PIM, -14
Junior A Rights - Yorkton Terriers
Thompson led the Yorkton Harvest in scoring two seasons ago, and made the jump to the Western League last season. The minus number does jump out a little for the second year forward, who ranks tied for last in the league in that stat, but the Cougars have struggled offensively out of the gate and played the bulk of their games on the road.
Spencer Tremblay - 1994 G - Moose Jaw Warriors

Junior A Rights - Wayway Wolverines
Stats: GP (1 of 14) 1-0, 4.00 GAA, .889%
The Warriors had a surplus of goalies at the start of the season, and it looked like Tremblay may end up in Wayway. But, since the start of the season, Moose Jaw acquired Deven Dubyk, re-assigned him to Humboldt, acquired Luke Siemens from Everett, and re-assigned Brandon Stone to Estevan, which means the backup job behind Siemens is Tremblay`s, at least for the time being.
Davis Vandane - 1992 D - Spokane Chiefs
Junior A Rights - Yorkton Terriers

Stats: GP (11 of 11) 0g-4a-4p, 6 PIM, -1
At the start of last season, the Saskatoon Blades re-assigned Vandane to the Terriers, and he simply played too good to stay. He put up a point-per-game in his time as a Terrier, controlled the powerplay, and was quickly scooped up by Spokane, where he had 17 assists the rest of the way, and saw his name on the NHL Central Scouting Rankings at one point.
SHYMKO / WAKALUK POST SHUTOUTS
Shymko had plenty of margin for error thanks to the offense in front of him, but stopped all 30 shots he faced in a 9-0 win in Estevan.
Curtis Oliver scored the first two Terrier goals, 18 seconds apart early in the first. It was 3-0 after one, 7-0 after two, before they tacked on two more in the third.
Justin Lamontagne also scored twice, while the others came from Brady Norrish, Keven Cann, Riley Paterson, Zak Majkowski and Ryon Sookro. Nathan Murray had 3 assists.
The Terriers are 4-1 against the Bruins this season, and Estevan's only lost 7 games all season. The Terriers are also responsible for Steven Glass's only 2 losses. He was lifted after 5 goals, while Brandon Stone gave up the other 4.
--------------------------
In Melville, there was a little more pressure on Alex Wakaluk to be perfect.
The Mils and Humboldt Broncos were scoreless after regulation, before T.J. Reeve buried the winner with 51 seconds left in overtime, for a 1-0 win, and Wakaluk's first SJHL shutout, a 38 save performance.
The Broncos out-shot the Mils 16-7 in the third period, 38-34 on the night.
Melville's off until Tuesday, when they head to Humboldt.

STAMPS ACQUIRE NOBILI

Nobili, a Montreal product, scored 15g-21a-36p in 53 games last season in Neepawa, and had 2g-3a-5p in 12 games so far this season.
Klippenstein was recently acquired by the Stampeders from Weyburn.
Nobili won't play against his former club on Friday, as he picked up a one-game suspension as a result of the hazing incident in Neepawa.

CIOLFI CHARGES BRONCO COMEBACK

Ciolfi scored his 12th goal of the season and added two assists, as his Broncos beat his old club 4-3.
The Terriers led 3-1 late in the second period, before Ciolfi cut it to 3-2 with 13 seconds left in the middle frame.
He added his second assist of the night in the third period, on Adam Antkowiak's late game winner.
Keven Cann, Brent Struble and Jamie Vlanich scored for the Terriers, while Zak Majkowski had two assists, and Kale Thomson stopped 37/41 shots in his first loss of the season.
The Terriers fall to 7-10-0 on the season, and as usual this time of year, get punted from FAA for a while, as Harvest Showdown takes centre stage at the Gallagher Centre. The Dogs start a stretch of 6 straight road games Wednesday in Esetvan (7:30 on GX94).
-------------------
The Wayway Wolverines got back to the .500 (7-7-1) mark, with a solid 4-1 win over the visiting Neepawa Natives.
James Davidson made 27/28 saves, Steven Duda and Zaine Walker had 2 assists each, while the goals came from Russell Turner, Richard Little, Jean-Michel Naud and Brett Pinkerton.
The Wolverines are one point back of OCN for 2nd spot in the Sherwood, and wrap up a 5 game home stand Thursday against the Winnipeg Saints.
NEEPAWA FINES/SUSPENSIONS
The Neepawa Natives hockey club have been fined $5000.00
Head Coach Bryant Perrier has been suspended for 2 games.
Assistant Coach Brad Biggers has been suspended for 5 games.
Team Captain Danil Kalashnikov has been suspended for 5 games.
Assistant Captains Richard Olson, Tyler Gaudry and Shane Harrington have been suspended 3 games.
A total of 12 other players have been suspended for a total of 1 game each.
-------------
I talked to Commissioner Davis, and he said the suspensions don't all take effect instatntly (for obvious roster reasons). The Natives will have to sit out a minimum of three players for each game, until all of the suspensions are served.
CIOLFI RETURNS

Ciolfi was part of a futures deal, along with Clarke Breitkreuz, to head to the Broncos in the off-season, completing the trade that brought Justin Buzzeo and Jeremy Boyer to the Terriers on January 7th of this year.
Breitkreuz is currently in Germany, having accepted a contract to play Division III professionally for EV Duisburg.
As a 19-year-old last season, Ciolfi put up 22-goals and 52-points in 47 regular season games, and went on to score a league-leading 14 playoff goals in 15 post-season games. He scored Yorkton's only goal in Game 7 of last year's final, a 3-1 loss in La Ronge.
He's scoring plenty for the Broncos this year too, and they're coming in bunches.
Ciolfi has 11 goals, and 8 of them came during a four game stretch. He's got four multi-goal games already this season, including two hat tricks.
He's also due. Since that 8 goals in 4 games span, Ciolfi hasn't scored in his last five games, including Saturday, when the Terriers held him off the scoresheet.
The Terriers host the Broncos tonight at 7:30.
----------------
Our first Prairie Junior Hockey League broadcast of the season goes tonight when the Ochapowace Thunder host the Assiniboia Southern Rebels at 7:30 at the Lebret Eagledome.
Ochap sits at even .500, at 4-4, while the Southern Rebels come in with a record of 4-1-2.

HEARTBREAKER IN PORTAGE
Overtime appeared certain, until Portage's Mike Gemmill potted the winner with 14 ticks left on the clock.
Beau Taylor scored for the Stamps in the second period, while the comeback was sparked by Connor Pennell, Jagger Thomas, T.J. Fairall and Brendan Mitchell.
The powerplay was also a big reason the Stamps clawed back. They scored 3 times on the PP in the third period, and went 4/9 on the night.
On a totally unrelated note, the officials' calls on scoring plays were attrocious. The Stamps' third goal was plain as day... Robby Moar centring to Jeff Riddell. Riddell was stopped, and Connor Pennell put in the rebound. They gave it to Tony Patridge. The assists were way off, and I see they're now corrected, but that was definitely Pennell's goal. The tying goal, Mitchell took a one-timer... it appeared to go off something in front and in. Mitchell didn't even get an assist. It was credited to Fairall (who I'm pretty sure was lined up on the other point and set up Mitchell's one-timer). As I said on the broadcast, personal stats are secondary, but it's nice to get them right.
I was also told that two of Yorkton's goals from Saturday in Humboldt were credited to the wrong guy, and assists were wrong on two other goals. They've now been changed. But it's frustrating!
The Stamps are now winless in 10 of their last 11 games, and are off until Friday, when they start another 3-in-3 stretch. They host Neepawa Friday, go to Dauphin Saturday, and to Neepawa Sunday.
----------------
The Melville Millionaires continue to struggle in overtime and shootouts, as they fell 4-3 (SO) to the Weyburn Red Wings at Horizon Credit Union Centre.
They're now 1-4 in games after regulation, including 0-3 in shootouts. Infact, Millionaires shootouts are 0/8 as a team in shootouts.
17-year-old rookies Allen Kilback and T.J. Reeve continued their recent strong play. Reeve scored twice, and gave Melville their only lead of the game with 3:28 remaining, before Jesse Ross tied it for Weyburn with his second of the night with 1:22 left.
Kilback had two assists, as did Bob Pond, while Tyson Newell also scored.
Alex Wakaluk was a big reason why the Mils got a single point, as they were out-shot 16-5 in the third period, 41-33 on the night, and he made 38 saves.
The Mils welcome Humboldt on Wednesday.
POWERPLAY GETS TERRIERS BY BRONCOS
Giebel was re-assigned to the Terriers by the WHL's Everett Silvertips earlier in the week.
The Terriers were 3/5 on the man advantage, with Jeremy Johnson and Brent Struble also scoring on the PP.
Chase Norrish added his first SJHL goal late in the game, at even strength.
Kale Thomson made 27/29 saves in goal for the Terriers, boosting his personal record to 3-0. Along with that, he's got a 2.00 GAA, and a .939%.
The Terriers will see a lot of the Broncos in the next while, as they'll host them in their next action on Tuesday, and again for the SJHL Hall of Fame game on November 18th... so three of their four matchups happen in less than a month.
-------------------------
The Swan Valley Stampeders are now 1-1 on their three game road swing, following a 7-2 loss to the Saints in Winnipeg.
Beau Taylor scored for a second straight night, his 7th of the season... while Justin Valentino had the other Stamps' goal.
Patrick Johnson faced 44 shots in goal for the Stampeders.
Swan Valley will wrap up the trip Sunday in Portage... we'll have all the action on GX94, starting with the Pre Game Show at 6:20 Manitoba time.
------------------
The Wayway Wolverines had another strong effort against the Winnipeg Blues, but fell just short of beating them for the second time in just over a week, falling 3-2 on home ice.
Two defensemen, Thomas Ward-Cardinal and Pierre Landry scored for Wayway.
James Davidson stopped 28/31 shots.
The Wolverines fall back below .500 (6-7-0-1) with the loss.

STAMPS SNAP SLIDE
T.J. Fairall had a goal and an assist, while Tony Partridge and Beau Taylor also scored.
Jayson Argue stopped 39/42 shots in regulation and overtime.
The Stamps were 0-6-2 in their previous 8 games. They'll try to build a winning streak as they visit the Winnipeg Saints tonight (SAT), and the Portage Terriers tomorrow (6:30 on GX94).

TERRIERS ADD GIEBEL / TRADE LEWIS

Giebel AP'd with the Terriers as a 16-year-old, and spent just over a year with the Silvertips.
In a seperate move, the Terriers have also traded 1993 F Austin Lewis to the SIJHL's Dryden Ice Dogs for future considerations.
Terrier GM Don Chesney talks about the moves

GOODRUNNING LEADS WAYWAY OVER OCN

Shane Goodrunning had a goal in the first period, an assist in the second, and a fight in the third, as the Wayway Wolverines beat the OCN Blizzard 4-1, to get back to .500 (6-6-1), and jump back over the Blizzard and into 2nd place in the MJHL Sherwood.
The Wolverines also out-shot Matt Krahn and the Blizzard 38-24.
Jean-Michel Naud, Cody Koskimaki and Richard Little also scored for the Wolverines, Brett Pinkerton had 2 assists, and James Davidson made 23 saves.
----------------------
The Yorkton Terriers out-shot the Notre Dame Hounds 32-20, but had trouble solving Hounds' rookie goalie Ty Reichenbach.
The 18-year-old stopped 31 shots, and the Hounds got goals from five different guys in a 5-1 win.
Riley Paterson scored Yorkton's lone goal.
The Terriers have dropped three straight, and are 3-8 in their last 11 games, after a 3-1 start. Yorkton's in Humboldt on Saturday, before hosting those same Broncos on Tuesday.

MILS 1 @ ESTEVAN 4
Again, Melville scored first, on Allen Kilback's third of the season, and led through 40 minutes, but didn't hang on, as Estevan piled up four third period goals.
In their last 7 losses, including OT/SO losses, the Mils have held the lead at one point.
Coach Jamie Fiesel attributed leads slipping away to being physically and mentally beat up from life on the road, and was quite happy with their effort on Tuesday.
The Mils dressed just 17 skaters (5 defensemen) in Estevan, with Lee Christensen, Brett Kipling, Jesse Mireau and Lucas Froese all out of the lineup, and Fiesel said as many as three others wouldn't have played if they had enough bodies.
That's the physically beat up part.
Mentally, and physically in a way, is the fact that 13 games into the season, only three have been played at Horizon Credit Union Centre. For the first time this season, the Mils will have back to back home games, when they welcome Weyburn on Sunday, and Humboldt on Wednesday.
With 10 of their first 13 away from home, .500 (5-5-1-2) is acceptable, and the Millionaires hope some home cooking can get them over the hump.

MILS (5-4-1-2) @ BRUINS (8-5-0)
These teams have shown some similarities in the early going:
- They both have rookie goalies who've come out of nowhere to challenge for, and quite possibly be, the starter. In Melville, there's no question that Alex Wakaluk's that guy right now. When he's between the pipes, the Mils are 5-1-0-2. When he's not, they're 0-3-1. His numbers (2.44, .922% are also among the best in the league. For the Bruins, Steven Glass has had the lions share of the work in goal, and his stats (5-1-0, 2.30, .929%) are even a little better than Wakaluk's. He's been their best option so far, but I get the feeling that Derek Tendler and Brandon Stone will be given some time to see if they can't push him a little. Tendler's a year older, and Stone has Major Junior experience.
- Both teams' offense has been top-heavy. Estevan's Neufeld-Olson-Smith trio, and Melville's top group of Mireau-McNulty-Owen are rivaling each other for most productive in the Sherwood, and in the SJHL. McNulty (11g-12a) and Smith (12g-11a) are tied for the league lead in points with 23. Mireau, Smith, and Owen were already proven point producers, while McNulty, Olsen and Neufeld are having breakout years. Estevan's big three have been broken up on occasion as Keith Cassidy looks for some scoring depth, and Neufeld's numbers understandably dropped when he was playing with other mates. He also missed Sunday's game at the Showcase and is a question mark for tonight. Both coaches would say they need more from the supporting cast. BUT....
- That secondary scoring has been coming a little more lately. For Estevan, it's been rookies like Tanner Froese (5 goals), former Yorkton Harvest Ben Johnstone (3 goals, all in his last 5 games), and Matt Brykaliuk (3 goals, 4 points in last 3 games) who've been picking up the slack. For Melville, you can't ignore the recent boost in offense from Michael Sagen. He's got 7 points during a 4 game point streak. Jamie Fiesel's made no secret that he needs more from returning vets who led last year's team, like Roger Tagoona, Michael Desjarlais and Lucas Froese. All three were off to slow starts, but have chipped in more of late to take some pressure off the top line. Underagers T.J. Reeve and Allen Kilback have both scored in recent games as well.
- Mike Desjarlais leads the Mils against Bruins, with 2g-1a-3p in 3 games.
- Neither team can say their powerplay's let them down. The Mils are 3rd best in the league at 25.7%. Estevan's next, 4th at 23.3.
-----------
- No team in the SJ has more experience in overtime than the Millionaires, but that hasn't translated to success. They've been to OT 4 times, and are 1-3, including 0-2 in shootouts. Their OT loss came in their last trip to Estevan, when Dylan Smith scored on an odd-man rush.
- Melville's 5-4-1-2 record is okay, but they must be feeling like it could be better. Aside from opening night when they lost 8-4 in, you guessed it, Estevan, the Mils have 6 losses (including OT/SO), and they've all been decided by one goal. A 4-3 loss in Notre Dame where they led early, a 3-2 loss to Estevan in their home opener, where they also scored first, and pressed hard to tie, and a 5-4 loss at the Showcase to Humboldt. They led that one 3-1, and gave a puck away on a late powerplay, giving up their first short-handed goal of the season at a terrible time, losing regulation. Protecting leads has been a concern, and it makes you wonder what this team's record COULD be. This isn't horseshoes, but the Mils have played in 11 games without losing by more than one. One the other hand, four of their five of their wins have been by more than a goal.
- Tyson Newell was among the league leaders in scoring by a defenseman last year, but those numbers were skewed a little, because he played a good chunk of the year at forward. This year, he's been on the back end every game, and those numbers are even better. His 16 points (3g-13a) have him at least 7 points ahead of any other SJHL defenseman.

SPELAY, KREPAKEVICH, STRUTHERS COMMENT ON SJ HOF INDUCTIONS
I barely scratched the surface with them... and will get a lot more in depth during Hall of Fame Weekend, but I just wanted to get their initial thoughts, and get them on the air following Friday's announcement at the Showcase.
Gerry James will also be inducted. I haven't been in contact with him about it yet... but am hoping to be shortly.

MILS SALVAGE A SHOWCASE WIN
One night after a 5-4 loss to Humboldt, the Mils left Estevan with a Showcase Split.
Along with Owen's 7th and 8th of the season, rookie Allen Kilback added his 2nd, as did Roger Tagoona.
Ian McNulty and Michael Sagen had 2 assists each, and Alex Wakaluk made 30/32 saves, improving his personal mark to 5-1-2.
----------------
The Yorkton Terriers returned from the Showcase empty handed, after a close 3-2 loss to the host Estevan Bruins Sunday afternoon.
Zak Majkowski and Brent Struble did the scoring.
Warren Shymko returned to the crease, after missing over a week due to injury, and stopped 29/32 shots.
------------------
The Wayway Wolverines, like every other team Winkler's faced so far, had no answer for the unbeaten Flyers.
Winkler improved to 11-0 on the season, beating the Wolverines 5-2 on Sunday.
Curtis Veitch and Shane Goodrunning scored for the Wolverines.

MILS DROP A TOUGH ONE
A win would have given the Mils sole possession of 2nd place in the Sherwood, and they had their chances, up 3-1 midway into the game, when T.J. Reeve scored his first SJHL goal. Jesse Mireau, Mark Owen and John Stechyshyn had the other Mils' goals.
Zach Rakochy made his return, stopping 32/37 shots.
The Mils have now played 10 straight games without losing by more than a goal. This was their 6th one-goal loss of the season, as they slip back to .500 at 4-4-1-2.
-------------------------
The Swan Valley Stampeders overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period, but went on to lose in overtime for a second straight night, 4-3 (OT) to the Selkirk Steelers.
The Stamps trailed 3-0 early in the 2nd, before Peter Horecka cut it to 3-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third, a pair of powerplay goals brought them back to even. Tony Patridge got them within one, and newcomer Clinton Pirio tied it with 1:39 to play. The Stamps acquired Pirio and defenseman Cole Klippenstein from the SJHL's Weyburn Red Wings earlier in the week, in exchange for the playing rights of Anthony Golio and futures.
Selkirk then scored on a PP in overtime to end it.
While the Stamps picked up points in back to back nights, they've now gone 8 games without a win.

SJHL ANNOUNCES HOF INDUCTEES
The city of Yorkton and the SJHL's Terriers will play host to the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Hall Of Fame induction ceremony on November 19th and there will be a distinct local flavor going in during the third annual dinner.
Darrell Spelay, the SJHL's all-time scoring leader with 243-goals and 208-assists, will headline the class that also includes his former coach, Gerry James, as well as builder Gene Krepekevich, and retired broadcaster Terry Struthers.
Spelay played for James during his career that spanded from 1979-1983 and scored at a clip of 1.83 points per game. He's a four time SJHL All-Star and was named the best Yorkton Terrier ever in a recent 35th Anniversary Team selection process. His jersey number six is retired in the rafters of the Farrell Agencies Arena and he was inducted into the Yorkton Sports Hall Of Fame in 2010. He currently runs his own business in Yorkton.
James owned, managed, and coached the Terriers from 1979-1984. He also had coaching stints with Melville, Estevan, and Moose Jaw. A two-sport athlete, James signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at age 17 and played for them from 1952-1963. He was part of four Grey Cups and six Grey Cup appearances. James also won the Schenley Award for Top Canadian in 1954 and 1957. He also played with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1964. As far as hockey is concerned, James played with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1954-1960 and served as a player/coach with the Yorkton Senior Hockey Team from 1964-1977. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall Of Fame in 1981, the Manitoba Hall Of Fame in 1982, Blue Bomber Hall Of Fame in 1999, Saskatchewan Hall Of Fame, and Yorkton Hall Of Fame in 1998.
Krepekevich coached minor hockey and volunteered with the Yorkton Sr Terriers from 1966-1971 and served as Vice President of the Jr Terriers from 1984 to 1986. He was instrumental, perhaps the key player, in saving the team from near bankruptcy during the mid 1980s. He was also an important figure in establishing the Terrier Scholarship Fund for post secondary education in 1986. He served as Terrier President from 1986-1993 and was Vice Chair of the SJHL from 1990-1994. He authored “History Of The Yorkton Terriers: 1972-1997 The Puck Stops Here” which was later placed in the NHL Sports Hall Of Fame. He also co-chaired Yorkton's RBC Cup event in 1999 and still actively volunteers and supports the Yorkton Terriers.
Struthers was the Terrier radio broadcaster on GX94 from 1988-2007, and also served at CFSL in Weyburn from 1983-1988. He was the 2001 winner of the SJHL Media Of The Year, and received special recognition in 2008 from Hockey Canada for his dedication to amateur hockey. He was inducted into the Yorkton Sports Hall Of Fame in 2010. His highlights as a broadcaster included the Centennial Cup in Sudbury ON, RBC Cups in Melfort, Yorkton, and Streetsville, as well as the national Midget AAA championship in Sault Ste. Marie.
The SJHL also announced November 19th will be the SJHL Hall Of Fame Game, when the Humboldt Broncos visit the Terriers.
TERRIERS DROP SHOWCASE OPENER
The Terriers led 2-1 late in the first period, but the Stars would score the next 4 goals.
Just 50 seconds after Battlefords forward Blake Tatchell opened the scoring, Jamie Vlanich made it 1-1.
Then, Brady Norrish scored one of the nicest 'First SJHL goals' you'll see, especially from a rookie defenseman, jumping up into the offensive zone, winning a race, getting behind the Stars' defense, and chipping the puck just under the crossbar, over Graham Hildebrand's glove.
The Terriers fall to 6-7-0 with the loss, and meet the host Estevan Bruins at the Showcase Sunday at 2:00.
The Melville Millionaires play Humboldt on Saturday, Kindersley on Sunday, both at 5:00.
-------------------
You wouldn't know the Swan Valley Stampeders and Winkler Flyers were two of the top defensive clubs in the MJHL after their meeting on Friday.
Eight goals were scored in the 3rd period alone, as the Flyers eventually won 7-6 in a shootout.
The Stampeders held 5 different leads, including late, before Winkler tied it with :51 remaining to force OT.
The first four times the Stamps grabbed the lead, the Flyers tied it :23, :55, 2:09, and 1:00 later.
While they were both busy, two of the top statistical goalies in the league combined to allow 12 goals. Jayson Argue made 45/51 saves for Swan, and Corey Coop stopped 39/45 for Winkler.
Connor Pennell, Sam Briscoe, Justin Valentino, Beau Taylor, TJ Fairall and Peter Horecka scored for the Stamps, who will try to end their 7 game winless skid when they host Selkirk tonight (SAT).

Wolverines Wrap Up Perfect Trip
But, shortly after returning home, they turned their bus around, went right back to that part of the province, and made amends.
After a 7-6 shootout win in Steinbach on Wednesday, the Wolverines were back at the MTS Ice Plex to play the Winnipeg Blues, the Showcase hosts, who took a record of 8-and-2 into last night's game... and, the Wolverines came out on top 4-2.
James Davidson made 27/29 saves in his second start as a Wolverine.
Wayway scored three time on the powerplay and got 1g-1a from both Richard Little and Thomas Ward-Cardinal. Russell Turner scored for a second straight night, while Brett Lafond also scored, and Shane Goodrunning had two assists.
The win boosts the Wolverines' record back to .500, at 5-5-1, which leaves them in 2nd spot in the MJHL Sherwood, and their next five games are on home ice, starting Sunday at 4:00 against Winkler.

WILD FINISH IN WEYBURN
The Melville Millionaires trailed the Weyburn Red Wings 4-2 as time started to tick down in the third period.
T.J. Reeve would then set up Michael Sagen with a nice feed, and Sagen made it 4-3 with just over six minutes left.
And, on a late powerplay, with the extra attacker on... Mark Owen, knowing time was running out, snapped a wrist shot from a less-than-perfect angle, but the shot was nothing short of perfect, going off the post and in, over the glove of Mitch Kilgore as the buzzer sounded.
The officials had a short conference, but the goal stood up, and for the fourth time this season, the Millionaires were off to overtime, which solved nothing, and Weyburn ended up scoring twice in the shootout to win 5-4 (SO).
Ian McNulty scored twice for the Mils, and move into a share of the SJHL lead with 11 goals on the season. Owen added two assists to his buzzer-beater, and Jesse Mireau had a pair of assists, but crashed hard into the end boards in the third period and was helped off the ice, putting no weight on one leg.
The Mils now have points in 7 of their last 8 games, but their winning streak is over at three games.
They're now just one point back of top spot in the Sherwood, with a record of 4-3-1-2. The Mils play Humboldt Saturday at 5:00, and Kindersley Sunday at 5:00 at the Showcase in Estevan.
Estevan 3 @ Yorkton 5
The Terriers are back to .500, after completing a home-and-home sweep of the Estevan Bruins, with a 5-3 win on home ice on Wednesday.
It was a true see-saw, as the Terriers led 2-0, but then trailed 3-2 after the Bruins scored three goals less than three minutes apart late in the second period.
Jeremy Johnson notched his first SJHL hat-trick, while adding one assist. His centreman Zak Majkowski set up four goals, and Brent Struble scored his first of the season, adding one assist, and has 3 points in 2 games since returning from injury. For Johnson, he had 5 goals in the mid-week home-and-home with Estevan.
The Terriers (6-6-0) and Bruins (6-5-0) now share top spot in the Sherwood Conference.
Yorkton will see the Battlefords North Stars on Friday at 5:00 (on GX94), and Estevan once again Sunday at 2:00 at this weekend's Showcase.
Wayway 7 @ Steinbach 6 (SO)
The two teams combined for seven first period goals, and the Wolverines outlasted the Pistons for a high-scoring shootout decision.
Richard Little led the Wolves with 2g-1a. Dallas Holenski, Russell Turner, Shane Goodrunning and Jean-Michel Naud also scored, while Brett Pinkerton added an assist and the shootout winner.
The Wolverines wrap up their two game swing with a Thursday nighter against the Winnipeg Blues.
Dauphin 6 @ Swan Valley 4
The Kings scored twice in all three periods.
Rookie Justin Valentino scored twice for the Stampeders, and was set up both times by T.J. Fairall. Beau Taylor and Peter Horecka also found the net.
Patrick Johnson made his first MJHL start in goal for the Stamps, making 33 saves.

TERRIERS/MILS PICK UP WINS TUESDAY
Jeremy Johnson led the Terriers with a pair of goals, while Jamie Vlanich and Riley Paterson had the others. At least I was pretty sure Paterson banged in a rebound to make it 3-1... although the website says Zak Majkowski.
Kale Thomson made his first Junior 'A' start, and looked more than comfortable, stopping 37 of 38 shots against the highest scoring team in the Sherwood.
Voice of the Bruins Blaine Weyland tells me I'm just the second visiting Play-by-Play guy to do a game at Spectra Place (I believe Darryl Skender was the first)... well let me tell the rest of you guys you're in a for a treat if you're heading to the Showcase this weekend.
It's nothing short of pro... especially the view from the booth. Makes for an easy broadcast from such a vantage point. I'm there three more times this month and can't wait!
It was a banner night for the Yorkton Harvest program, as I counted 8 Harvest alumni, including Denin Boesch who was scratched for Estevan. That also includes Thomson, and the only Bruin to beat him, Ben Johnstone (who was also kind enough to be my first intermission guest).
You can see all these former Harvest players in action tonight (WED), as they meet again at Farrell Agencies Arena.
-----------------------
The Melville Millionaires picked up their third straight win, but almost let one slip away against Kindersley.
The Mils led the Klippers 3-1 in the third period, and watched the Klippers come back.
Lucas Froese scored with 1:07 remaining in OT, and the Mils won 4-3 (OT).
Ian McNulty had 1g-1a for the Mils, while Mark Owen scored twice.
Alex Wakaluk won again, making 34 saves, as the Millionaires out-shot the Klippers 49-37.
The Mils look to push that winning streak to 4 as they visit the Weyburn Red Wings tonight (TUE) (7:30 on GX94).

Honorable Mention: Andrew Johnston, Humboldt; Ian McNulty, Melville; Cameron Blair, Flin Flon.
SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK:
Tyson Newell, Melville Millionaires
1991 D Tyson Newell (Prince Albert SK) had a goal and four assists in three games played, helping the Mils pick up five of a possible six points.
Honorable Mention: Brody Luhning, Battlefords; Scott Bollefer, Nipawin; Ryan Whitell, Weyburn.
SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK:
Alex Wakaluk, Melville Millionaires
1993 G Alex Wakaluk (Bellevue AB) won both of his starts, stopping 54 of 56 shots to help the Mils complete a weekend sweep of the Yorkton Terriers. The rookie has been very stable since arriving on the scene, posting 3-1-1, 2.17, .930 totals for the season.
Honorable Mention: Steven Glass, Estevan; Andy Desaultels, Flin Flon; Davis Jones, Nipawin.
----------------
The Swan Valley Stampeders have made another deal.
After acquiring goaltender Patrick Johnson from the Kindersley Klipper, the Stamps have sent fellow 1993 G Connor Darowski and futures to the Flin Flon Bombers, in exchange for 1993 D Nick Lee (4GP 1g-0a) and 1993 F Beau Stewart (8GP 1g-0a).

5-1 MILS AGAIN / SHERWOOD STRUGGLES AT MJ SHOWCASE
This time, it was their first win at Horizon Credit Union Centre, and it also got their record back to .500 (3-3-1-1).
Alex Wakaluk came even closer to getting his first SJHL shutout, before Yorkton's Austin Lewis beat him with just 3:46 remaining in the third.
Ian McNulty had 7 points in the weekend home and home, following Friday's 4 pointer with two goals and an assist at home. Jesse Mireau added two assists. The other three Mils' goals all came from defensemen- Brett Kipling, Bob Pond, and Tyson Newell.
The special teams numbers also looked very similar to Friday's game, with the Mils going 3/7 on the PP, while Yorkton was 0/5.
How tight is the Sherwood Conference in the early going? The Mils were tied for last coming into the weekend. Now they're tied for 2nd, with three other teams, including the Terriers.
---------------------
Between Friday and Saturday, 10 cross-divisional games were held at the MJHL Showcase in Winnipeg. The Addison Division came away with 9 wins against Sherwood opponents, and went 5-for-5 on Saturday.
The Dauphin Kings were the only Sherwood club to pick up a win, doing so on Friday against the Saints. OCN was the only other northern team to pick up a point, losing in a shootout to Selkirk on Friday.
All this of course means, both Swan Valley and Waywayseecappo went 0-2.
On Saturday, the Stampeders fell 6-3 to Portage. Sam Briscoe scored his first MJHL goal, while Tony Partridge and Beau Taylor had the others, and TJ Fairall picked up a pair of assists.
The Wolverines dropped a 3-1 decision to the Winnipeg, with Brett Pinkerton scoring their lone marker.
As we hit Thanksgiving, and roughly the one month mark, the Stamps and Wolves are both 3-5-1, good for 7 points and a third place tie in the Sherwood.

MILS STRIKE FIRST / STAMPS, WOLVES LOSE AT MJ SHOWCASE
The Mils' top line of Jesse Mireau (2g), Ian McNulty (1g-3a) and Mark Owen (1g-2a) combined for 9 points, and special teams told the story. The Mils opened the scoring short-handed, and scored on each of their first three powerplays. Brett Kipling also scored for Melville, while Ryan Sookro broke Alex Wakaluk's shutout bid. Wakaluk made 33/34 saves in goal for the Mils.
Dawson MacAuley made his Terrier debut in goal, making 27 saves. The 6'5" 208 lb 17-year-old was acquired from the Battlefords North Stars this week for a list player, after he was reassigned by the Medicine Hat Tigers.
The win gets the Millionaires playing .500 hockey on the road, at 2-2-1-1, and 2-3-1-1 overall, after opening things up with a heavy stretch away from home.
The game featured some hostility, as Yorkton/Melville games often do, and should. Mils' forward Andre Parker got tagged with 5 and a game for a hit to the head. Parker just stepped out of the penalty box, and Ryan Sookro didn't see him. Sookro went down hard, and a penalty wasn't coming, until the officials had a conference, and ruled 5 and a game. Sookro went to the dressing room, but didn't miss much time.
Terrier forward John Odgers was also given 5 and a game for high sticking, and ended up scrapping with T.J. Reeve in the same stoppage.
Another weird twist saw a 5-10 minute delay, when referee Jason Mercer required attention at the Millionaires' bench. After struggling off the ice, Mark Dubriel, who happened to be in the building, got his gear on and replaced Mercer. Mils' Coach Jamie Fiesel told us on the Post Game Show that Mercer had a vertigo spell, felt like everything was spinning. Mercer wanted to return, but the coaches convinced him to stay off the ice as a precaution, and Dubriel stepped right in.
The two teams meet again Saturday night in Melville.
-----------------
It was a tough start to the MJHL Showcase for both the Wayway Wolverines and Swan Valley Stampeders.
For the third time in their last four games, the Wolverines gave up 7+ goals, falling 7-4 to the Portage Terriers.
James Davidson played goal for Wayway. Brett Lafond, Bobby Janzen, Pierre Landry and Ashley Howie did the scoring.
---
The Stampeders once again struggled to score.
Jayson Argue made 24/26 saves, but the Stamps managed just one goal, off the stick of defenseman Troy Hoban, in a 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Blues.

ROBIN'S ROUNDTABLE TONIGHT!
The first of four Robin's Roundtable shows goes tonight, from 6:30 - 7:00 at Robin's Donuts & 2-For-1 Pizza on Broadway Street in Yorkton.
The show will take place the night before each of the four Yorkton Terriers-Melville Millionaires home and home series this season, and we'll hold two shows in Yorkton, two in Melville.
Tonight, I'll be joined, as always, by Mils Coach/GM Jamie Fiesel, and Terrier GM Don Chesney. While those two have no issues filling up a half hour show on their own, we're also involving the players this year.
Wherever the show is held, that team will provide will also provide us with two players... and tonight, that will be Terrier forward Zak Majkowski and defenseman Devon McMullen.
The players will be signing autographs, so come grab pizza and a coffee at Robin's in Yorkton tonight!

STAMPS ADD DEPTH IN GOAL

Johnson had a 15-7-1 record, 3.05 GAA and a .908% with the Saskatoon Contacts 'AAA' Midget team last season, and also suited up in Pre Season play with the Saskatoon Blades this season, before being reassigned to Kindersley.
The Stamps now have three 1993 born goalies on their roster, with Johnson joining Jayson Argue and Connor Darowski.
WEDNESDAY RECAP
The Wolverines took on the Stampeders in Swan Valley, and on GX94.
Wayway led 1-0 after the first period on a Tyler Posch PP goal, and blew it wide open in the second, scoring three times, while out-shooting the Stamps 17-4 in the middle frame. Zaine Walker, Ashley Howie and Thomas Ward-Cardinal scored in the second, while Pierre Landry had two assists.
Josh Switzer had his shutout big spoiled by Stampeder defenseman Colton Magwood, who scored his first MJHL goal in the third period, on the powerplay.
Switizer stopped 31/32 shots, while the Wolverines put 38 pucks on Jayson Argue at the other end.
With that, the Stamps and Wolverines have identical 3-3-0-1 records, heading into the MJHL Showcase Weekend in Winnipeg.
---------------
The Melville Millionaires stormed out to a 2-0 lead in Estevan after the first period, and it nearly stayed that way through 40, until Calder Neufeld buried his 10th of the season with just four seconds remaining in period two.
Neufeld would add his 11th before the night was out, and Dylan Smith scored 28 seconds into overtime, giving Estevan the 4-3 (OT) win.
Jesse Mireau, Michael Sagen and John Stechyshyn scored for the Millionaires, while Alex Sirard made 33/37 saves. Three of Estevan's goals came on the powerplay, including the overtime winner.
---------------
The Yorkton Terriers dropped their third straight road game, as they fell 4-2 in Melfort.
The Terriers got on the board first, as Ryan Sookro scored his first of two on the night on a late first period powerplay.
Kamil Przepiorka made 22 stops in goal.
The Terriers host Melville on Friday, and visit the Millionaires on Saturday, as they play their first home and home of the season.

TERRIERS SOLVE KILGORE THIS TIME
On Tuesday, the Terriers snapped a two game slide, beating the Wings 4-2 on home ice, thanks in part to three powerplay goals.
One line did a lot of the damage. I coined them the "French Connection" on opening night... not sure if they have a lick of french in them or if their names just sound like it... but Brenden Poncelet had two goals and an assist, Justin Lamontagne had three helpers, while Kailum Gervais scored his first SJHL goal, as part of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick, as he added one assist and a fight.
Warren Shymko made 24 saves as the Terriers improved to 4-and-3 on the season, and they're off to Melfort on Wednesday night.
-----------
The Swan Valley Stampeders erased a 2-0 deficit, but would end up losing 5-3 in Dauphin Tuesday night.
Ryan Wigner, Jagger Thomas and Connor Pennell scored for the Stampeders, while Jayson Argue made 44 saves on 48 shots, before the Kings added an empty netter.
The Stamps have now lost two straight, and host the Wayway Wolverines on Wednesday (7:30 on GX94).

Winless Weekend
Saturday night, Melville dropped their home opener 3-2 to Estevan at Horizon Credit Union Centre. Dustin Eberle and Lucas Froese scored, while Alex Wakaluk made 31 saves.
Yorkton fell 5-2 in La Ronge, and return home from their first northern swing empty-handed. Doing the scoring was Jeremy Johnson and Jamie Vlanich.
The Wayway Wolverines gave up 15 goals in two nights on their road trip, following an 8-4 loss Friday in Winkler with Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Saints in Winnipeg. Ashely Howie, Zaine Walker and Brett Pinkerton scored for Wayway.
Just a quick one tonight... I'll post some HCU Centre pics sometime on Sunday.
P.S... one positive note from Saturday night was the Yorkton Harvest picking up their first win of the season, as they beat the visiting Saskatoon Contacts 5-4. Congrats to Jeff Odgers on his first win as Harvest Head Coach! The two teams meet again Sunday at 2:00.
LOCAL CLUBS GO 0-FOR-3 FRIDAY
The Yorkton Terriers were shutout 4-0 in La Ronge. One of the Ice Wolves' top playoff performers from this past spring, Aaron Enns, had a goal and an assist, while the Wolves out-shot the Terriers 51-38.
Warren Shymko made 47 saves in the loss.
The Terriers play their second, and last game in La Ronge this season on Saturday night.
----------------
I was in OCN, where the Jayson Argue did everything but score for the Swan Valley Stampeders.
The 18 year old goaltender stopped 36 of 37 shots, but didn't have any offensive support, as the Stamps fell 1-0.
It was scoreless after 40 minutes, before Guillaume Vallee was finally able to solve argue 2:32 into the third period, on OCN's 29th shot of the game.
Argue, who's played every minute in goal for the Stampeders through 5 games, lowered his GAA to 1.36, and upped his SV% to .958.
The Stamps are off until starting a stretch of four games in five nights on Tuesday in Dauphin.
--------------
The Wayway Wolverines and Winkler Flyers were even at 3 after two periods, until Winkler exploded for 5 goals in the third, and went on to win 8-4.
Jean-Michel Naud had 1g-1a for Wayway, while Ashley Howie, Bobby Janzen and Brett Pinkerton scored the others. Defenseman Thomas Ward-Cardinal added a pair of assist.
The Wolverines wrap up their two game swing in Winnipeg tonight against the Saints.
