TERRIERS DROP SHOWCASE OPENER

A second period where they took just four shots and gave up three goals ended up hurting the Yorkton Terriers, as they fell 5-2 to the Battlefords North Stars at the SJHL Showcase in Estevan.

The Terriers led 2-1 late in the first period, but the Stars would score the next 4 goals.

Just 50 seconds after Battlefords forward Blake Tatchell opened the scoring, Jamie Vlanich made it 1-1.

Then, Brady Norrish scored one of the nicest 'First SJHL goals' you'll see, especially from a rookie defenseman, jumping up into the offensive zone, winning a race, getting behind the Stars' defense, and chipping the puck just under the crossbar, over Graham Hildebrand's glove.

The Terriers fall to 6-7-0 with the loss, and meet the host Estevan Bruins at the Showcase Sunday at 2:00.

The Melville Millionaires play Humboldt on Saturday, Kindersley on Sunday, both at 5:00.

You wouldn't know the Swan Valley Stampeders and Winkler Flyers were two of the top defensive clubs in the MJHL after their meeting on Friday.

Eight goals were scored in the 3rd period alone, as the Flyers eventually won 7-6 in a shootout.

The Stampeders held 5 different leads, including late, before Winkler tied it with :51 remaining to force OT.

The first four times the Stamps grabbed the lead, the Flyers tied it :23, :55, 2:09, and 1:00 later.

While they were both busy, two of the top statistical goalies in the league combined to allow 12 goals. Jayson Argue made 45/51 saves for Swan, and Corey Coop stopped 39/45 for Winkler.

Connor Pennell, Sam Briscoe, Justin Valentino, Beau Taylor, TJ Fairall and Peter Horecka scored for the Stamps, who will try to end their 7 game winless skid when they host Selkirk tonight (SAT).
