- Outstanding playoffs, great final, even better Game 6... but the game winner?!?! Not only was it a WEAK goal, but it had to be the most confusing, awkward Stanley Cup clincher in the history of the game. Patrick Kane snuck one through the pads of Michael Leighton, it got stuck in the padding at the bottom of the net... no red light, no real reaction from anyone, except Kane... who, didn't start to REALLY celebrate until he got to centre ice. Even those who joined him were doing a 'double-take' to the refs, the net, to make sure it was infact a goal.
- As I said on my editorial this morning... I feel terrible for the Play-by-Play guys! You dream about calling an OT winner, especially to win the Stanley Cup... and that's the goal you have to call?! Here's the Chicago Radio call on WGN.
Poor guy. That's the goal you dream of and the goal was a stinker!
Wasn't a crisp, clean goal like, "Stingfellow steals it back... moving in... SCOOOOOOOORES! KEVIN STRINGFELLOW ENDS GAME 7! THE TERRIERS... ARE GOING TO LA RONGE! WOOOO-HOOOOOOO!"
Ah, those were the days! When does SJ/MJ start again? Camp in about 2.5 months... Pre Season in 3 months... Regular season in just over 3 months.
- Some people wanted to watch Marian Hossa lose in a 3rd straight Stanley Cup Final. Maybe I'm a softie, but I really didn't! I know he makes $7,000,000 a year, but geez I felt bad watching him shake hands with his former Pittsburgh teammates while wearing a Detroit uniform... a year after shaking the Red Wings' hands as a Pen. I felt great for the guy, and good on Johnny Toews for handing him the Cup first.
- 20 people were in our office playoff pool. I finished 20th. And I'm the sports guy. We could pick any 10 players we wanted, $5 each. I took 2 Caps, 3 Devils, 2 Sharks, 3 Canucks, banking on that as the final four and a Van-NJ final! Lost my whole Eastern Conference in Round 1, had my 2 Sharks in the Conf Finals and that was that. "You could pick any 10 players you want and you didn't take Sidney Crosby," my colourman Clark Stork rubbed-in daily. I was hoping Sid would slip from the top 10, but he finished 8th. My playoff tree had them losing to Washington in Round 2. GX mid-day guy Jay Marchillo had Toews, Kane and Sharp leading him to a first place finish, and a nice, round $100. In a winner-take-all format I decided to go out on a limb and throw all my eggs in my 'final-four' basket. Failed miserably, but made as much money as the 2nd place finisher, so oh well. Going in my first CFL Fantasy draft in the coming weeks! And just for the record, I won my first ever NFL Fantasy League 2 yrs ago, and the year before that, won the regular season and playoffs pools in the same year... so I'm not always this bad!
- I'm not an NBA or a World Cup guy. Bring on the CFL because I'm bored!

oh my...there is more to the world than just the NHL, SJ/MJ, and WHL. True sports fans will enjoy the World Cup for the drama and upsets. The Australian Football League (which has a live game every week on TSN2) is great viewing for the new dad who is up late at night with his new baby.
I've been turned off of hockey for two main reasons:
1)If you're still playing hockey after Victoria Day there is a big problem. You've been playing toomuch for too long.
2)The NHL has teams in places where hockey should not belong.
Steiner....10pm, Saturday Night, TSN2 . . .the Western Bulldogs from Melbourne travel to Queensland to take on the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba. And you think they hit hard in hockey.
Excuse me??? More to the world than sports??? haha
Aussie football? Never seen it, but if i see it on my guide i'll remember this comment and give it a look.
What/where is the Gabba?
...they hit hard plus they don't use Equipment either.
There was an Aussie Football player who was big in the Eighties (His name escapes me now) who said that North American Football players are "girls" compared to Aussie Football Players because they wear equipment!!!
The Gabba is the Home of the brisbane Lions. It is the premier stadium in Queensland that has a very Taylor Field Like atmosphere.
I went to high school with a guy from Tasmania who played Aussie Footy. He tried out for our football team and came out onto the field with no equipment on and started tackling guys who had equipment. Once he found out that with equipment you don't feel anything he went nuts and rightly earned the nickname of "The Tazmanian Devil". Rory was a great kicker and a great linebacker. Craig you need to watch the AFl...remember there's more to the sporting world than just hockey...
When you have a chance pop over to www.afl.com.au. And did you know we have a national Aussie rules footy team?
Toews did to Hossa what Sakic did to Bourque when he joined the Avs for the playoffs. Nice to see the "Snubbed" get their due.
I was surprized how cocky Burrish was when referring to Chris Pronger. I expect Burrish may need some medical attention the next time the two are on the ice together. We all have axes to grind; we don't need to stoop to the level of broadcasting them on national TV. Pretty gutless if you ask me.
