Camp Starts Today in Yorkton/Melville! / Hextall Inducted / Brayden Metz

All 12 SJHL teams kick off training camp around the province this weekend. The Terriers and Millionaires both hold their annual Intra-Squad games on Sunday... the Mils at 2:00 and the Terriers at 6:00. I'll be on one of the Terrier benches Sunday night... I've done this before, but not since being at GX94. I believe I've got a 1-1 career record, beating the Dauphin Herald's Doug Zywina, but losing to Voice of the Warriors James Gallo in Moose Jaw. Did I ever buy you that schooner James? Hopefully I'm back to above .500 after Sunday... although my coaching counterpart hasn't been determined, or at least wasn't as of yesterday.

Terrier season ticket blitz was a good time yesterday at Haas Nissan. The 11+ hours there went by surprisingly fast, and the boys at Haas treated us well. I think my next car is there to be honest! A good number of Terriers stopped by throughout the day, including several new faces looking for a spot. Here's a quick look at a few.

Matt Chomyc (19) F, 2008-09 Princeton Posse (KIJHL)
35 GP... 13g, 21a, 34p... most points per game on the team, missed 17 games.
6'2", 195 lbs.

Brody Brewster (19) F, 2008-09 Princeton Posse (KIJHL)
45 GP... 9g, 7a, 16p... 295 PIM!
5'10", 180 lbs.

Brenden Stephen (19) D, 2008-09 Princeton Posse (KIJHL)
20 GP... 4g, 6a, 10p... 45 PIM
6'7", 200 lbs.
Played 7 games with the WHL's Everett Silvertips in 2007-08

Scott Bollefer (18) D, 2008-09 Yorkton Harvest (SMAAAHL)
36 GP... 3 assists... 24 PIMs
6'4", 165 lbs.

Morgan Salkeld (18) F, 2008-09 Yorkton "AA" Midget Terriers
36 GP... 20g, 18a, 38p

Full story's at www.sjhl.ca, but former Melville Millionaires' goalie Ron Hextall will be inducted into the SJHL's Hall of Fame class in October. Others inducted will include the current Coach/GM combo in Weyburn of Dwight McMillan and Ron Rumball, long-time NHL defenseman Chris Chelios, and former SJHL President Wayne Kartusch.

As I posted a couple weeks back, Brayden Metz is giving the WHL another shot with his hometown Regina Pats. The 19 year old spent time in Melville last season, and this morning, there's a feature on Metz on the front page of the LeaderPost Sports Section... give it a read!

What the heck, this is 2009... here's the same story online!
