PJHL Rookie of the Year Leads Terriers Over ND

As per the post below, Jeremy Johnson of the Ochapowace Thunder was just named the Prairie Junior Hockey League's Rookie of the Year.

On Saturday, playing in his 6th SJHL game, Johnson scored two goals (his first in Junior 'A'), to lead the Yorkton Terriers to a 4-1 win over the Notre Dame Hounds. Fellow AP Keven Cann had 2 assists, while Justin Buzzeo and Riley Paterson also scored.

Devin Peters stopped 23/24 shots for his 2nd straight win.

The Estevan Bruins nearly helped out the Terriers, battling back from 2-0 down against Kindersley, but the Klippers scored two in the third to win 4-2, and stay two points back of Yorkton. Games are starting to wind down... the Klippers have 7 left, while Yorkton has 8. However 5 of Kindersley's final 7 are on home ice, with their two road games in Humboldt and Battleford.

The Terriers host Battleford on Tuesday, which is Yorkton's third-last home game. They have a home and home with Melville this coming weekend, and welcome La Ronge in their regular season finale.

-----------------

Melville suffered a heart-breaker in La Ronge Saturday night.

Up 2-1 after two periods, the Mils watched soon-to-be 50-goal man Travis Eggum tie it with his 47th of the season, and Canora product Skylar Hladun pot the winner, for a 3-2 Ice Wolves' victory.

Lucas Froese and Michael Desjarlais scored for the Mils, who are still two points up on Notre Dame with two games in hand. Melville still has 11 games left, while the Hounds have 9. Battleford is also the Mils' next opponent, this Wednesday night.

------------------

Swan Valley scored twice in the third to force overtime, where they lost 3-2 to the Winnipeg Saints.

Dylan Trowell and Jesse Enns scored the goals just 25 seconds apart, while Ryan Marshall assisted on both.

The way the Sherwood's shaping up, a single point could mean the difference between staying in your own division for playoffs, or missing them altogether, so still a big point in the standings for the Stampeders.

All 6 teams in the Sherwood except Neepawa (49) have now played 50 games (of 62). Swan's in 4th with 55 points, Wayway 52 and Neepawa 49. The Natives fell 3-1 in OCN Saturday night.

Sunday's another big day in the Sherwood playoff race, with Wayway home to Dauphin, Swan Valley finishing off a trip in Winkler, and Neepawa in OCN once again.

Great job by a kid who's never played above Tier 2 hockey in his life. Just goes to show, no matter where you play, if you're good enough, they'll find you. Keep it up JJ!
