Last Pre-Christmas Work Week

Yes, you read that right.

The radio station's always been good to us at Christmas time, and everyone in the newsroom gets either Christmas Week or New Years Week off (and it doesn't even count as vacation time!).

For me, it's always Christmas Week, since hockey's back at it before New Year's, so as of Friday night, it's Christmas Holidays for this guy. I'll make up for it the following week though, covering morning news and sports, so getting up at 4am, with a couple hockey games and a talk show on the air that week as well... furthest I have to travel that week is Melville though!

Unfortunatley I had to say no to helping out with World Under-17 coverage that week. Would have been a neat opportunity.

-------------------

Don't look now, but the Wayway Wolverines are 5-1-1 in their last 7 games, including 3-0-1 so far in December.

As I'm typing this, the MJHL Standings aren't right up to date, because it still says last night's Neepawa/Selkirk game is in overtime. Selkirk won in OT, so Neepawa gets a point, which puts them 4 points up on Wayway, with a game in hand.

I can't say that I'm always pumped to go to OCN, just because it's a four hour hike, and a chilly barn, but I AM pretty pumped for Wednesday. I haven't seen the Wolvernies for a while, and it's a big game for them. Catch all the action on GX94, starting at 6:50 with the Pre Game Show Wednesday night.

------------------

Swan Valley beat Selkirk 6-3 on Friday, with Dylan Wells making 49 saves, but allowed the Winnipeg Saints to come from behind, and win 3-2 in Swan on Saturday.

That leaves the Stamps one point back of division-leading Portage, and they've also played 3 more games than the Terriers.

Swan's also back at it Wednesday when they host Dauphin. They then go to Dauphin on Friday, for the 8th and final meeting of the season with the Kings.

Hard to believe the two Parkland rivals will be done with eachother before Christmas.

I've got a feeling they WON'T actually be done with eachother! I'd love to see another playoff series between those two.

----------------

So the Nipawin Hawks are in the SJHL's basement, but they're the league's hottest team (excluding Yorkton who didn't play last week).

The Melville Millionaires found out the Hawks aren't an easy out, falling 5-2 in Nipawin on Saturday.

The 5th place Mils sit 4 points back of Kindersley, and 5 behind Weyburn, with 2 games in hand on both.

Melville and Yorkton have similar schedules this week to head into the Christmas break.

Melville: Tue vs MFT; Fri @ WEY; Sat vs HUM
Yorkton: Wed vs MFT; Fri vs HUM; Sat @ WEY

------------------

As posted last week, Terrier D Davis Vandane is now with the WHL's Spokane Chiefs. He's already played twice with the Chiefs... both wins, 3-2 over Vancouver on Friday, and a 10-5 decision over Kamloops Saturday.

Vandane has been held off the scoresheet, has 4 PIMs, and is a (-1) in those two games. The Chiefs have a home-and-home with Seattle this Tuesday/Wedensday. They also play this Friday and Saturday, before a 10 day Christmas break.

The Chiefs are losing Jared Cowen to the World Juniors and Reid Gow to the Under-17's, both defensemen, so they'll keep Vandane AT LEAST until those two events are over, and if he shows well, he could stick there for longer.

------------------

For me this week, I've got Wayway @ OCN on Wednesday, and the Mils in Weyburn on Friday. Then, a nice little 9 day break.

This doesn't have much to do with your recent post, other than the fact that it's hockey. But this is a writeup on Jaden Schwartz, and about the team Canada World Jr. selection process that that he is involved in.
I found it interesting anyways.
