Back in the Saddle

I kept my "no blogging over Christmas break" pledge, and was somewhat relieved to see that was also the case for most bloggers I check out. There's not a heck of a lot going on today either... but I'll do my best to put a few thoughts out there.

World Juniors
My favourite hockey (to watch on TV) of the year, slightly ahead of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Nothing touches actually being at a game, let alone CALLING a Junior Hockey playoff game rinkside. But as far as watching goes, the annual December-January tournament ranks #1 for me. I watched all 120 minutes and 23 goals for Team Canada in their first two games. It was a little surprising to see the Czechs fall of the face of the "contenders" list when Canada thumped them 8-1 on Boxing Day. And infront of my whole extended family, I predicted a 15-0 Canada win over Kazakhstan. Thanks guys! John Tavares is stud, and maybe NOW he's done enough to convince some of the STUPID NHL scouts that he IS the #1 prospect for the '09 Draft, and not Sweden's Victor Hedman. Canada plays Germany tonight (I'll say 7-1), and then the States New Years Eve for what will be a first place showdown for the right to go straight to the semis.

Mac's Tournament
The Yorkton Harvest hoped to be competitive at the Mac's, and they're doing just that, they just haven't been able to get into the win column. After a 2-2 tie and a 3-1 loss, the Harvest fell 4-3 to the Calgary Royals last (SUN) night. The Harvest wrap up the round robin, and most likely their tournament tomorrow (TUE) against the Edmonton South Side Athletics Club.

World Under-17's
Team West, who have Melville Millionaires' Coach/GM Jamie Fiesel as an Assistant, go up against Quebec in their first game of the tourament today (MON) at 4:00 SK time.

New Years Day Game
The Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires both return to action Thursday at 2:00 for their annual New Years Day matchup, this time at Melville Stadium. We'll be on the air with the Pre Game Show at 1:45.

Richie Hall Red Cross Golf Classic
Despite Richie now being Head Coach of the Edmonton Eskimos, his Yorkton-based golf tournament will go on! While I was on holidays, GX94 News Director Doug Falconer had a chance to get ahold of the long time Rider DB and Defensive Co-ordinator.

A Buddy and I had a "Prop" bet on the Canada/Kazakhstan game last night...Which will be higher? Team Canada goals or Kazakhstan's shots on goals!!

I took the goals and got an "Adult Pop" out of it!!

Yeah... tough to get too excited about the shutout when Pickard could have let in every shot he faced and still won 15-11!
