The Yorkton Regional Raider Gridders fell 21-7 to the Winnipeg East Side Eagles in Saturday's Raider Alumni Game at Century Field.
Not bad for a group of alumni, some of whom are in their 40'S, playing against a Senior Football Club from a 4-team league in Manitoba.
Darcy Zaharia was more than satisfied with the final result.
"We were saying at half time, down 7-0, obviously deep down we wanted to win, but it worked out really good, we were happy."
Zaharia and current Raiders' Head Coach Roby Sharpe were two of the key organizers of this weekend's 50th Anniversary celebrations. It was a short game for Sharpe, who suffered a broken leg in the first offensive series of the game.
One of the key contributors was receiver and kicker Alan Kyle, who made several highlight catches in coverage, and caught Yorkton's lone touchdown of the game, a 7-yard strike from Ryan Moore with 2:20 to play in the 4th quarter.
Kyle says it felt good to wear orange again.
"Oh yeah, it was great out here today, a lot of fun, the other team had great sportsmanship, and I think everyone had a great time out here today so it was good."
Kyle just wrapped up a 4-year career with the U of R Rams.
