Raider Gridder Alumni Fall 21-7

The Yorkton Regional Raider Gridders Football program's celebrating its 50th anniversary this weekend, and it was highlighted with Saturday's Alumni Game against the Winnipeg East Side Eagles, a senior team from a 4-club league in Manitoba. I'll post comments from work on Monday... for now, I can tell you the Raiders lost 21-7, but were definitely happy with that score, considering some of their players were over 20 years removed from playing tackle football. Alan Kyle, fresh off a 4-year career with the U of R Rams was the go-to receiver for the Raiders, scoring their only touchdown with 2:20 to play in the 4th quarter. Current Raider Gridder Head Coach Roby Sharpe, who played a key role in organizing the event, broke his leg in the first offensive series of the game. You'd think he played for the Riders with that type of injury! I talked to lineman Darcy Zaharia (who helped organize things with Sharpe as well) and Alan Kyle after the game. Stay tuned for their thoughts tomorrow, both here and on GX94.
