Holiday Blogging

When I left on holidays, the Yorkton Cardinals and Melville Millionaires were just wrapping up their regular seasons in the Western Major Baseball League. By Monday, they'd both lost out of the playoffs. The Cardinals were swept by Swift Current on Sunday... and the next day, Melville lost to Regina, falling 3-games-to-1.

I feel bad missing both teams' ends to their seasons, but holidays were at a premium in the month of August, and this was pretty well the last chunk available to take before hockey gets going at the end of the month. I do want to thank Bill Sobkow and Jason Santangelo, coaches of the Yorkton Cardinals, and Melville Millionaires' bench boss Garnet Keller for all their help all season, never turning down interviews, whether it be weekly Coach's Shows, or post game chats.

I've had a great time away from work so far. Came to Saskatoon on Thursday, before we (Carly and her parents) made the 5.5 hour trip to Cypress Hills for the Monette family reunion. Guess I'm REALLY part of the family now. It was fun, because a good chunk of the family came from Calgary, so that 1-point Rider victory Saturday night felt that much sweeter. Most people played poker that night, but I elected to go back to the cabin to watch. First, I thought the Riders were done when Congi missed his first FG of the year... then, I thought the game was in hand when our defense made a HUGE stop on Joffrey Reynolds on 3rd and inches. (Why did they hand the ball off? Why didn't Burris run the sneak?) Then, we give them a chance by leaving way too much time on the clock... I honestly thought DeAngelis would make the 54 yarder... I'd take him over everyone else in the league to make that clutch kick... luckily he missed wide right.

The weekend also consisted of a crib tournament, where myself and Uncle Ron went 3-and-2. Carly has the bragging rights, her and Uncle Bruce (a teacher in Yorkton) were the tournament champs, going 4-1, losing their last game 121-120. I played horseshoes for the first time ever, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty good. Imagine how good I'll be when I'm 80, and am actually the in the normal horseshoes age range.

I also ate and drank more than I probably should have, but that's what reunions are for.

We're watching "21" as I type. That Black Jack movie that just came out with Kevin Spacey. And we already caught "What Happens in Vegas" today at the theatre, it's a good one. Hopin to see "Step Brothers" while still in Saskatoon. Had some time to kill on 8th Street before the movie, toured the mall, got a /=S=/ hat and T-Shirt (they were sold out of jersies)... played a little mini golf and the batting cages by Ruckers.

Tomorrow we're heading to the Ex, Thursday is Riders (on TV for me), and we just got tickets to Three Days Grace Friday @ Credit Union Centre. I love holiday time!

I'm off 'til Monday, but I might come back Saturday. One of the ladies from work is getting married that day with the reception at the Gallagher Centre. Plus the Yorkton Regional Raider Gridders are having their Alumni Game at 2:00 at Century Field. If I'm back in time for that, I'll for sure check it out, and you should too!

I probably won't post again until I'm back, unless something big happens in the SJHL/MJHL... but stay tuned for season previews, etc towards the end of the month. I've said it before that July's the only month when the entire world of hockey takes a break, and now it's August, time to get ready!
