Team Saskatchewan kicks off the Baseball Canada Cup in Medicine Hat this (WED) morning.
Saskatchewan meets Quebec at 9:00 and the Yorkton area's got some good representation, with coach Evan Wasylyniuk on the staff, and pitchers Logan Calanchie and Andrew Minchuk in the rotation.
As one of just three 1992-born players on a 20 man roster loaded with 17 year olds, Minchuk says having a teammate and a coach there with him adds some familiarity.
"Yeah it's definitely good to have a pitching coach here who I've been with for a year or two now."
Minchuk adds they're setting their sights high in Medicine Hat.
"We'll have high expectations, we'll just do our best and see how we do, we've got a pretty solid team this year."
After this morning's game against Quebec, Saskatchewan meets Ontario at 3:00. Just one game tomorrow, against B.C. at noon... they play Quebec and Ontario again on Friday, and B.C. once again Saturday... each pools plays a double round robin before the playoffs get going Sunday.

The Yorkton Junior Cardinals landed in Prince Edward Island last night, ahead of tomorrow's start of Junior Baseball Nationals in Charlottetown.
Coach Wade Karcha says nearly half the players on the club are from Yortkon, with a good number of surrounding area guys making up the roster.
"The area's well-represented, actually. Players from Spyhill, Langenburg, down in Carlyle, over in Balcarres, Melville, Willowbrook, Roblin, here in Yorkton, we picked up a pitcher from North Battleford, so the province is fairly well represented on our team I think."
The Junior Cardinals are still in the South East Senior Baseball League final against the first place Canora Supers. Yorkton's got a 2-1 series lead, and with Nationals this week, Karcha says the league final obviously goes to the back-burner for a while.
"That's right, we were lucky to get in 3 games before heading East. We're up 2-games-to-one, and once we get back we'll have to re-schedule the final game or two."
Yorkton plays its first game of Nationals tomorrow (THU) morning against New Brunswick.
