Four Yorkton Terriers are leaving for Connecticut today, where they'll take part in summer hockey for the month of July. 20-year-old forward Derek Serdachny, 20-year-old forward Bryan Hull, 19-year-old forward Cody Zubko and 20-year-old defenseman Greg Coburn will all play in Simsbury, CT. I got the details from Serdachny before they took off.
CS: Derek, first off if you can just explain what it is and where it is you'll be playing hockey this summer.
Derek Serdachny: I'm going to Simsbury, CT to play for the Northern Connecticut Wings Hockey Club. It's kind of like a summer hockey team, we play in 3 tournaments. We host a tournament, another team hosts a tournament and then there's the big "Chowder Cup." It's pretty much just a way to get exposure to the College Scouts down there, Division One, Division Three, and we're all looking forward to going.
CS: Who's all going?
DS: Bryan Hull, Cody Zubko, Greg Coburn and myself.
CS: Anyone else from the SJ that you know of?
DS: There's a few guys going from Notre Dame, a couple from Estevan, one from La Ronge, and other than that I'm not quite sure.
CS: How did you find out about it and how did this all start?
DS: Well during that Terrier Alumni game (during the All-Star Weekend in Yorkton), Devin Rask came back and he's coaching a team down there. So he kind of recruited a few of us and lined it all up for us.
CS: It's about a month long, when do you get back?
DS: Yeah, we leave Thursday, June 26th, and I believe we get back July 28th, it should be fun.
