- Highlight of my Friday? I made very few great shots at the "Dollars For Scholars Golf Classic" yesterday afternoon, but I got the one that counted. On the Par 3, 102 yard 8th hole at Deer Park, I hit a soft pitching wedge and knocked it 3 feet left of the pin and won closest to the pin for the tournament. Got a 18V Black & Decker cordless drill courtesy of Remax for my efforts. Another great day of golf, another steak supper, and our station team of Glen, Keith, Colin and myself shot a 3-under 69, after starting the day with back to back bogeys.
- Luckily I have the NHL Network and can watch rounds 2-7 of the draft. I guess you could call me a draft junkie, I never miss it. I'm pretty pumped my Leafs moved up to take Luke Schenn, a rock-solid D-man from the Kelowna Rockets. We'll have to see if he goes back to Kelowna for another year (or two) and win a 5th straight gold medal for Canada, or if he can play with the Leafs right away. My old buddy Travis Hamonic (pictured, courtesy whl.ca) was taken in round 2 by the New York Islanders. I know Hammy from my Moose Jaw days. The year I was there he was sent to Jr A and played for the Winnipeg Saints in his hometown before getting called up midway through last year and from what I hear has further developed this year. He's one of those rare hockey players I'd let my younger sister date! Super nice kid. And he'll make the jump in a couple years. One of our more local kids to get picked, also in the second round was Gilbert Plains, MB's Colby Robak. The Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman went to the Florida Panthers. I remember watching him play for the Parkland Rangers as a 15 year old and he was a stud then, and now runs Brandon's powerplay on the backend.
- Cardinals and Millionaires both won last night! Mils play Sherwood Park again tonight, Yorkton will then host the Dukes for a game and a bit tomorrow (SUN) afternoon. At 2:05 they'll finish Thursday's suspended game (1-1 after 11 innings) before playing a full game.
- Saturday... time for laundry, dishes, and the last few rounds of the draft.
Happy Weekend!
