Cards/Mils Weekends

It's not very often you get a week off in the Western Major Baseball League... and the Yorkton Cardinals had exactly that thanks to Mother Nature.

The Cardinals didn't have their 'A' game, falling 11-5 to the visiting Regina Red Sox at Jubilee Park last night.

Coach Bill Sobkow says the layoff hurt them more than he thought it would.

Jordan Herbison took the loss on the mound, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings... while walking 4 and striking out 3.

Herbison doesn't look at the layoff as an excuse, he says he's just gotta throw strikes.

Thomas McAlpine went 2-for-3 at the plate... 2 doubles and 2 RBI's... Duncan McAlpine was 1-for-3 and scored 3 times as the Cards fall to 3-and-4, and get set to host Weyburn tonight at 7:05.

The Melville Millionaires spent the weekend in Saskatoon, where they lost 5-4 Saturday night before last night's 14-2 romp over the Yellow Jackets.

The Mils scored 5 times in the first inning, were up 9-0 after 3 innings, and added 5 more in the 7th.

Leadoff man James Green was his patient self, drawing 4 walks in 5 appearances, coming in to score 3 times.

Dan Carter was 4-for-5... Casey Justice 3-for-6 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs.

The Millionaires continue their busy stretch with a home game against Regina tonight... they're in Yorkton tomorrow.
