Stamps Hold Off Wayway; Terriers Beat FF

The Swan Valley Stampeders built a 4-0 lead less than halfway into last night's game against Wayway, on goals from Darcy Riddell, Brad McDonald, Ryan Marshall and Shelby Gray, but the Wolverines scored three of the game's final four goals, thanks to Niko Grose, Pierre Landry and Dan Kelsey.

Swan Valley hung on for the 5-3 win, as Connor Pennell added a third period goal.

Jordan Sinclair (pictured), the newest Stampeder made his presence felt with 2 assists, playing on a line with McDonald and Pennell. That line combined for 5 points.

Caden Unger improved his mark as a Stampeder to 8-0-0-2, playing in his first game since December 19th, making 30/33 saves. Chris Jackson stopped 30/35 in the Wayway net in his first MJHL action.

The Stampeders have now built a 10 point lead over Portage for that coveted second spot in the Sherwood Division standings, and are now a season-high 15 games above .500 at 28-13-2-3, with 16 games remaining, only 6 of which are at home.

The Stamps travel to Neepawa tomorrow (FRI) (7:20 / 7:30 on GX94), and then host the Portage Terriers on Saturday. Back to back games against the two teams closest to them in the standings.

The new-look Yorkton Terriers took to the ice for the first time since the deadline on Wednesday, and sent the Flin Flon Bombers to their fourth straight defeat, 3-2 at Farrell Agencies Arena.

After Sunday's acquisitions, the Terriers have eight 20 year old forwards, and five of them hit the stats sheet against the Bombers. Newcomer Kyle Miller (pictured) scored in his first game as a Terrier, opening the scoring in the first period, assists by fellow newbie Ryan Griffiths. Other 20 year olds Jordan Menke and Nick Dietrich each scored their 10th of the season, while Adam Moar also picked up an assist.

The Terriers exploded for 20 first period shots, and had 37 through two periods, out-shooting Flin Flon 42-33 on the night. Devin Peters made 31/33 saves in the win.

After tonight's All-Star Game in Lanigan, which features Yorkton's Clarke Byczynski and Devin Peters, as well as Melville's Logan Herauf and former Millionaire Aaron Decorby, the Terriers continue on to a tough three game weekend swing against Battleford, and Kindersley twice.

Yorkton's back into fourth place by themselves, two points up on Melville, and both Highway 10 teams have played 42 games, which means they both have 16 left.
