Rakochy Rock Solid / Stamps Thump Steinbach

Nerves didn't seem to affect Zach Rakochy, who made his first career Junior 'A' start for the Melville Millionaires as a 16-year-old goalie on Friday. Rakochy turned aside 43 of the 44 shots he faced as the Mils improved to 2-and-1 with a 4-1 win over Battleford. Logan Herauf scored in the first period, assisted by Aaron Decorby and Michael Desjarlais, as that trio continued their point scoring streak. Cody Hanson, Michael Rogoschewsky and Michael Jordan all added their first goals of the year, as the Mils got some spread out scoring for the first time in the young season. Matt Kinnunen added two assists.

The Swan Valley Stampeders scored 5 third period goals and hit double digits in a 10-3 win over the Steinbach Pistons to improve to 5-and-3. Ryan Marshall now leads the league in both goals, and points, after a goal and 3 assists gives him 9 goals and 15 points in 8 games. Darcy Riddell had a goal and an assist, while the third member of the line, Carter Selinger scored twice and added a helper. Brent Wilson still leads all MJHL blueliners in points (3g, 10a, 13p) after a 3-assist night. Fellow defenseman Paul Bonar chipped in with his first points of the season, recording 2 assists. Chris Reimer had 2-goals and one assist, while Cody Straker (1g, 1a), Myles Stevens, Brad McDonald, Jeff Peel and Eric Herbel (first as a Stamp) also found the net. Chris Ward made 35 saves in the win. The two teams meet again on Saturday night at the Corral.
