The 11th edition of the Blue-Gold Intrasquad Game wrapped up Stamps Camp this weekend.
Team Gold came out firing and built a 5-1 lead after one period and held that lead until midway through the second when the clubs switched goalies. Brett McDonald shone as he turned aside 19 of 20 shots he faced in the Team Blue net, meanwhile Team Gold netminder Troy Chandler was hindered by a couple bad bounces as he stopped 17 of 22 shots.
The game tightened up in Period 2 and there was no scoring as Team Gold Head Coach Ken Munro looked to protect the 4-goal lead.
The third period saw Team Blue score 5 unanswered goals to briefly take the lead prior to Team Gold tieing the game in the final minutes. The 5 minute overtime didn't settle anything, and a 5 shooter shootout was the determining factor with Team Gold scoring on 2 of 4 attempts, while Team Blue only converted on 1 of 5.
Josh Hohn surrendered 5 goals on 23 shots in the second half of the game but held the fort when it mattered most in the shootout to pickup the win. Mason Riley held the fort, stopping 21 of 22 shots enabling the Team Blue come back but was unable to shut the door in the shootout.
Leading the way offensively for Team Gold was Cramer Coulthart (1+2=3), Ryan Griffiths (1+1=2), and Brent Wilson (1+1=2). Other goal scorers were Darcy Riddell, Brad Argue, and Brooks Christensen.
Myles Stevens (1+2=3) paced Team Blue with Jeff Peel (1+1=2), Chasen Dobranski (1+1=2), and Michael Ferland (0+2) also making an offensive impact. Other goal scorers were Carter Selinger and Brendan Mitchell.
The Stampeders move forward into the Exhibition season starting Tuesday night as they visit the Dauphin Kings, while Dauphin completed the home and home on Wednesday night as they travel up Highway 10 to the Corral. Game time is 730PM.
