Myself and Clark Stork made the trip to Melville last night and witnessed a beauty of a ball game... only the weather elements were not-so favourable.
The game started late to begin with (7:45)... and went to extra innings, finishing at 11:00, at a temperature of about +6 celcius.
But was an entertaining matchup, with Melville's Matt Costa and Moose Jaw's Mike Rahrich tossing gems.
Moose Jaw would score in the 4th and 9th to go up 2-0, but the Mils answered back with patience, drawing four walks in the 9th to eventually plate 2 runs. 1B Josh Corriea was walked with the bases loaded on a full count with two out to tie it.
And, it was Corriea once again in the bottom of the 11th, with pinch-runner Sean Gaughan at second base... Corriea bounced one up the middle right over second base, and despite a good throw from centre field, Gaughan got under the tag to cash the winning run.
Melville's Costa worked 9 innings, allowing one earned run on 7 hits, struck out 9 and walked two. Rahrich for MJ threw 8.2, 2 runs on 5 hits, struck out 10, but also walked 10. Sidearmer Coty Saranthus (4-0, 0.28 ERA) came in for the 10th and 11th to pick up the win.
Mils' SS Humberto Miranda walked 3 times and scored once... CF James Green was 2-3 with 2 walks, and Corriea went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Click below to hear a post game chat with the Brampton, ON product.
