SJHL Final: Broncos @ Mils Game 2

Just like in the Sherwood Conference Final against Weyburn, the Melville Millionaires picked up a key road victory in Game 1 against the Humboldt Broncos. In the Weyburn series, the Mils came home for Game 2, only to have the Wings even the series with a 5-0 decision. Tonight, the Mils will have another chance to go up 2-0 on their opponent, and one would have to think the Broncos won't be as forgiving as the Red Wings if Melville doesn't take advantage of home ice like in Game 2 of the previous round. The Millionaires were still able to go into Weyburn and win for a second time in Game 3.

In the regular season (which means jack-all, I know), Melville was 2-0 against Humboldt at the Stadium, out-scoring the Broncos 13-2 (9-1, 4-1). Another win at home tonight would force Humboldt to win 4 out of 5 to keep their Championship streak going, at least one of which would have to be at the Vault.

"Sure it'd be nice to have a 2-0 lead," said Mils' Coach/GM Jamie Fiesel, "But that is not going to be easy, I really have a lot of respect for this Humboldt Bronco team. (Goaltender Andrew) Bodnarchuk didn't play (in Game 1), they've got some guys banged up too, just like us, but boy, they are still a very good hockey club, they limit chances, their transition game, you saw, we turned over the puck on a 2-on-1, and they score a goal on a 3-on-2. They're dangerous, they're an excellent hockey club, they know how to win. This was a great win for us, but there's a long road ahead."

Think Kale Dolinski likes the post season? http://www.sjhl.ca/ has a great feature on Kale on the main page. 35 pts in 35 career playoff games, including 21 goals! Impressive.

Catch the action tonight on GX94 and at Melville Stadium. Pre Game Show starts at 7:15, Play by Play at 7:30.

Hanson/Metz: "We've never experienced anything like this before."

The Melville Millionaires have a handful of players with Western Hockey League experience on this year's Sherwood Conference Champion team... and there's no question there's gotta be an initial disappointment when you're sent down from a WHL team.

But Cody Hanson and Brayden Metz, both 18 year old Western League cuts this season, both made the comment after knocking out Weyburn in the Sherwood Final, that they've never experinced anything like this before, or had this much fun playing hockey.

Hanson says it's a new experience they're enjoying.

"Me and Brayden played together growing up, and we've never been on a team this good that's been this close. After the struggles we went through in the WHL, it's nice to have fun here, and my next 3 years here are going to be a lot of fun."

Hanson also notes he never backs down from a good scrap, but says it's nice to add a little offense to his game in a Mils' jersey.

"When I was with the Pats, that was basically all I ever did (fight). Here, I'll still do it, but I like to score too. I honestly forgot what it was like to score so it's fun to do that now too."

Hanson has 3 goals in these playoffs, including the last goal of the Yorkton series in round one, and the overtime winner in Game 1 of the Weyburn series.

The Mils may have lost their second game of the Weyburn series 5-0, but keep in mind there was some questionable reffing.

Please quit saying that, I was not at the game but all I have been told by Melville people mostly, and others that were there is that poor sportsmanship and bad temper by the coach cost them that game. Fiesel even said on the radio he took responsibility for that game you guys clobbered Humbolt not once did we hear them say it was the refs fault they said they played poorly which they did, I was at that game. Some fans there need to learn how to be good winners as well as accept losing and quit blaming the reffing.

They lost their heads a little, for sure. Reffing wasn't the best I've seen but it didn't cost them the game by any stretch, they weren't the better team that night.

Reffing didn't cost them the game, I agree, but the score would've been nowhere near 5-0 if they didn't call penalty after penalty on the Mils. That's all I'm saying. Yeah, the Mils were responsible for their actions, but some of the calls were also pretty bush.
