Melville Millionaires: 2008-09 Sherwood Conference Champions!

The Melville Millionaires punched their ticket to the 2009 Credit Union Cup final thanks to a 3-0 win over the Weyburn Red Wings Sunday at Melville Stadium.

After a scoreless first, Brayden Metz and Tyler Murray got the ball rolling in the second period for the Mils, who took a 2-0 lead to the room, despite being out-shot 15-9 in the period. Kale Dolinski added an empty netter in the game's final minute.

Travis Bosch was the story, making 35 saves in the shutout.

The Mils advance to the Credit Union Cup Final, where they'll take on the Humboldt Broncos. Official dates aren't yet set, but GX94 will have the series in its entirety.

TRAVIS BOSCH POST GAME

Hats off to the Red Wings. They graduate a strong crop of nine 20 year olds, including the likes of Preston Shupe, Torrey Lindsay and Justin Favreau. Appreciate the congrats from Brad McNeil on the Red Wings' blog... same to you and Kevin on a great season on the air.

Nice to see the visiting teams' fans have good representations in both rinks, being about a 2 hour drive. And I hate to throw in a negative here, but the one Weyburn fan in particular who took the time to make a "MELVILLE HAS NO HOPE" sign, regarding captain Daniel Hope's (possibly Junior career ending) head injury... that's garbage. Hope you enjoyed watching Daniel's swollen, stitched-up face shake hands in his shirt and tie after their series win. I'm not saying anything about the hit, clean or dirty, but to make a sign like that is beyond my comprehension. Great fans, for the most part though I have to say.

Now, for a little selfishness... I'm absolutely ecstatic to be calling a league final for the first time. My first year the team I covered came one win shy of the final, second year my team missed the playoffs, last year the Mils lost in Game 6 of the Conference Final, and now they're goin' to the dance, with myself and Clark Stork riding shotgun. Actually Brett Haacke rides shotgun, then Neil Lamberty, then the radio guy(s)... on the bus atleast! But ya... pretty jacked about that... this team's a great group of guys, and now they get a well-deserved break. For me, having just done 6 games in 6 nights, with the Mils and Fort Knox, I'll also enjoy a few nights off. I'll put together a preview of some sort, and try to update this site at least once a day with something. I got lots of audio from the guys after the game... they had a little gathering with parents/fans/executive in the Blue & White lounge.

LEAGUE FINAL BABY!
