Game 5 Tonight

- I personally know a few people on the SJHL Message Board, all of which are good people, but do cringe everytime I see my name on there. Why am I not unbiased in a Melville-Weyburn series? Uhhhhhh because I cover the Mils and not the Wings, perhaps? You think Weyburn's radio crew calls it right down the middle? I'm sure they don't, and why would they? They're WEYBURN'S station. So if you're cheering for Weyburn, please do flip over to them. Brad McNeil's profile on his blog ADMITS he's biased to Weyburn, and good for him. What should I have said when Dion scored in double OT? I REALLY WISH THAT WAS JUSTIN FAVREAU SCORING?????! Plus it's not like I don't acknowledge two teams... I've said that the Wings' line of Bly/Shupe/Lindsay is basically unstoppable, Whiffen's save on Metz in Game 3 was unreal (maybe not Bosch on Appleyard but close!), Favreau's maybe the best Jr 'A' defenseman I've seen... etc, etc. And yes, during the Yorkton/Melville series I didnt' go TOO off the wall for either team when they scored, because I knew our audience was split, not to mention I like both teams and both organizations and their fans. Had Yorkton won the series, I'd be just as much on the Terriers' side now as I am with Melville. I fully anticipate our audience this round is almost solely Millionaire fans. We're streaming online, and so is Weyburn, so if you're from out of town, or don't like the Mils, take your pick.

- Anyway, I planned on keeping that short and then talking more about Game 5, but I might have to reverse that being short on time. Game 4 was a gigantic game, I really thought if Weyburn won the series would be back in their hands, being a best of three, despite home ice not meaning a whole lot in these playoffs. And while it's not CRITICAL for the Mils to wrap it up to night, it'd obviously be very beneficial. Tonight, the pressure's on Weyburn. They know they gotta win 3 straight to stay alive. But, if they win this one, I think the pressure's on Melville tomorrow (SUN), being their last home game of the series, and they'd be feeling like they HAVE TO win. If it goes back to Weyburn for 7, the Wings will be flyin' high infront of their home fans. So the Mils, I think, have to kick the Wings when they're down, following two third period 2-goal leads slipping away, and a double overtime winner in Game 4. Also with Humboldt winning their series last night, the Broncos will be rested heading into the final. It'd be nice if their opponent was too. Should be fun tonight, players/coaches/radio guys leave at 3:30, fan bus at 4:30. See y'all there!

Stay off the BASH BOARDS, they take too much time away from things that matter...You BLOG is my new stop for what's happening in the PARKLAND...Dont bring the trash to your BLOG. I am not sure if you have aspirations to move on from Yorkton, but your talent puts you up there with many Hall of Fame Sports reporters in the area...Keep Up the Great Work, Craig. The local area listeners should be proud to say that, "we had a Craig Stein report the sports in our area" as you are destined for greatness.

sorry, our station reaches outside yorkton too. it matters zero where the building is. sponsors from all 4 of our jr A cities pay our station advertising dollars to have games broadcast, and I get paid to do the work. for me to pick one team over the other, or be less excited for one than the rest, would be wrong. of course i'm 100% Mils now cuz they're our only team left in the playoffs, and I would hope Terrier fans would understand that. you, obviously don't. Like I said in my post I'd be just as happy for the Terriers right now if it was them vs Weyburn.

Craig,

You do a great job and don't worry about what a couple of anonymous posters post on that other site. I would not expect anything less than for you to be biased towards Melville. Sometimes these people don't realize we spend the whole season with these teams, travelling down the highway with these teams, etc, etc. You get to be good friends with everyone in the organization. Of course you are going to be biased towards the team you cover. See you in a few hours - should be a real barn-burner.

I agree with you Craig. It sucks when we have to defend ourselves because of a few fans that have nothing better to do than try and raise shit whether they are accusing the off ice officials of cheating or whining about how an announcer covers the game. I enjoy your blog and keep up the excellent broadcasting job.

I'll be at Melville in the old barn tonight wearing a red sweater. Go Wings.

Hey Craig, You do a great job calling the games.. Very Professional. I usually switch back & forth between AM1190 & GX just to get different perspectives on the game.
Keep up the good work!
