MCNULTY PLAYS THE HERO THIS TIME, MILS LEAD SERIES 3-1

The Melville Millionaires didn't lead Game 4 until there were 13.1 seconds left, and they won 4-3 to take a 3-1 series lead over the Yorkton Terriers.

The Terriers played a heck of a road game for 59 minutes, setting the tone early when Brenden Poncelet, reunited with Nathan Murray and Riley Paterson, scored just 14 seconds in, and it stayed 1-0 Yorkton after the first period.

Sean Aschim finished a beautiful tic-tac-toe play, taking a nifty feed from Adam Dibella to tie it just 2:22 into the second period.

The Terriers got the lead back on a second period powerplay. It was a weird one from my angle... Blake Voth made a save off Curtis Oliver, used a poke-check, and I think it bounced off Oliver again and in. Lucas Froese would get the Millionaires back on even terms, after Ian McNulty centered it out front, and front chipped home a backhand.

Brent Struble used some outstanding hand-eye to give the Terriers their third lead of the game. It looked like Chase Norrish's point shot was going wide, and Struble, on his backhand, changed the direction of the puck, into the back of the net for a beauty.

Then, inside the final minute, McNulty took the game over. The league's second leading scorer in the regular season banged home a rebound after Froese did a lot of the work to get the puck into the attacking zone. Then, 31 seconds later, McNulty struck again, pulling out a bag of tricks between centre ice and the Terrier net, scoring with 13.1 to play to make it 4-3.

Game 5 goes Friday in Yorkton... and with the Millionaires winning and making it a 3-1 series... we'll have that one in its entirety. Swan lost 5-2 to OCN, and that series is tied 2-2, so we'll pick up that series again with Game 6 Sunday in Swan.

Had a few requests on Twitter and the comments section for some audio highlights, so....

I will be leaving a letter to the the editor of how much the mils hate the terriers. I was simply cheering for the dogs. I had 2 drinks alll nights. I got kicked out of the game, because I cheered for my Dogs. The security said he warned me about hitting the glass, in which he didnt warn me at all. He got the police to kick me out after the game, shows how much cops in melville are terrible. Craig please keep this on please

T dogs are the better team just not getting the breaks, they will not fold, the only folding will be the crowd on Friday (lack of). I still believe they will win this series.

I have to say how disappointed I was in Melville's rink last night. I attended both game 2 and game 4 yesterday and was astounded by the rudeness of the Melville fans. 3 of us attended the game last night, we sat behind the Yorkton bench with many other Yorkton fans. After coming back to our seats after the first period we were told we could no longer sit there. We went and sat 4 other places and were told we could not sit there either and when we asked security well where could we sit, we were scoffed at and told not there. There is no assigned seating as you give your entire ticket when you walk in the stadium. We then stood behind the seats and were told by security we were not allowed to stand there either. Finally we found seats and in the second intermission were told by security that our feet were not allowed to touch the seat in front of us or we would be escorted by security out of the building. Like OMG, Melville rink should get there s*$t together!!What a joke!!

Agree with the assigned seating comment at the HCUC, especially for playoffs. As for banging on the glass, grow up people. Be loud and cheer for your team, but don't be an embarrassment by pounding on the glass.

It's amazing how banging on the glass has become such a hot topic around the league. It's a wonder these fragile pieces hold up to body checks from 200+ pound hockey players.

I really think Melville should be more appreciative and respectful of Yorkton and its fans. If it weren't for all of the Yorkton businesses advertising and providing sponsorship, you would have a hard time even having a team. So assign a section or two for Yorkton fans to sit at your rink....200 fans = $2800 in seat revenue....everyone buys a drink or program or some food or a 50/50 ticket and that number doubles.....so for the last two games Yorkton fans have brought your team and rink about $10,000. SOmething to think about before your security and fans are rude and try escorting Terrier fans out of the rink for unneccessary cause.

Yes people don't like ticketmasters extra dollar on the ticket but at least it is clear where you can sit, maybe Melville you could attach R for reserved on the seats we had the same problem last night. We were moved three times from seats, very annoying, but there is no way to know. And yes Yorkton fans come on you embarrassed us after the game yelling and screaming downstairs sit higher up if you can't leave the glass alone you know your not innocent, cheer but be respectful

See what a little alcohol can do to a person. May the better team win.

Great game a dissappointing loss for us though. It is great to see Melville finally does have some security but can see where the beer sales are too new for them or some can't hold their liquor, we were lucky there was not fights, some very annoying fans think they came to drink rather than cheer

The reserved seats in the HCUC are clearly marker with "Reserved 2011-12" stickers on the ground. Beats the "reserved" stickers that have been on the seats in the FAA for the last decade.........

Anonymous said...

Isn't every team supposed to reserve a section for fans of the road team?

Anonymous said...

Then a ticket should be produced we were just told to move we asked for one and were told it was not f.;***,.; necessary to get to the end where Yorkton belonged so to avoid an argument we just moved, see lots standing I guess that is the answer, or just go to home games

I love coming to Melville to watch a game at the HCUC to:

a) count all the SJHL championship banners hanging from the roof
b) visit the water park
3) visit the field house
4) enjoy a double double from Tims

sorry-my bad - none of the above exist.

Anonymous said...

that last comment was priceless, love it! Weyburn Red Wings vs Humboldt Broncos, its a given this year!

Anonymous said...

Yes, the success of a town and a facility can always be measured by whether or not you can enjoy a double double while watching hockey. Wow.

Anonymous said...

I couldnt live in a town without a Timmys. Its funny how Melville has gone from NO security years past to Sherrifs in the rink.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, most parts about being from Melville suck. I especially dislike the way we aren't able to convert main street and our businesses into a giant freshwater swimming pool in summer.

Anonymous said...

Wow! That's all I can say as a Yorkton fan! Let's get past the complaining about Mils fans, security, seating, glass banging, lack of coffee and focus on getting back and making this a series! I was at the game and Mils fans & security were just fine. Go Terriers!

Anonymous said...

As if the dogs didn't get any breaks last night! Mercer sat back and watched as they ran at the Mils from behind numeous times and no calls. HOw about the hit on Killback...like that wouldn't have been called an obvious hit from behind in any other game. Way to go Mils for proving that crap isn't going to slow you down just keep putting those points on the board.

I find it funny that a Melville fan is scolding Yorkton fans for not banging on their precious glass.

I remember years ago, that Melville fans were celebrating a playoff victory in the Agriplex by climbing on the glass and shattering it late in the third period.

My point....stay off our glass and we will stay off yours!!! Deal???

Anonymous said...

Yeah...well...my Dad can beat up your Dad. Seriously, the maturity level of some of the people on here is ridiculous.

Keep it to hockey and stay classy.

i am from Manitoba. Have been to games at both arenas. I follow Craigs site because it is second to nothing. I am not favoring either team just following the MJ and SJ play-offs. Sounds to me like Terrier fans being sore losers and then handing out low shots.

Anonymous said...

Is this seriously what a "hockey" blogs comments have come to? I would be very interested to hear if some of you actually even understood the game. Here is a hint: you are watching the players of two teams compete to put that little black thing in the opposing net. You are not watching glass hitters and security. Watch the f****** game people!

Anonymous said...

Ya come on people go out cheer for your team or the other who cares but the low shots are starting to get a little sickening .It is not like there USA million dollars on the series or for each city so go out and enjoy the hockey. So everybody grow up we teach our kids not to disrespect other people and we fans are acting like a bunch of a.....s holes GROW UP may the best team win GO MILS GO

Lorne said...

This is why I do not go to games in Melville because of crap like that. Every body should do the same don't go. We will see if they will be hurting in the pocket.

Anonymous said...

I love the game of hockey and have been a season ticket holder for the Terriers for over 10 years. All I am saying is it is frustrating to go to an out of town rink to watch competitive, exciting hockey, and be asked to move from your seats 4 times, which resulted in us missing 2 goals.

Anonymous said...

Relax Lorne, geesh...drama queen. People in Yorkton should watch out for another flash flood with all the whining and blubbering coming from you guys.

Lorne said...

We will see who will be crying & whinning when Yorkton fans do not go to Melville.Fiesel will not be happy.

Anonymous said...

All the crying & whining could be over after tonights game!
Its nice to see that there are still some level-headed people who understand what the game is all about. Like one person said, its just a game, not the end of the world. There have been some really good comments. Keep up the good work with your blog Craig.

Anonymous said...

Oh please mighty powerful Lorne, please tell all the Yorkton fans to come back to Melville to watch them play the Wings.

Anonymous said...

Do you have any idea how many times thats happened in Yorkton?? Seriously, they haven't had proper season ticket markers there for years. We too have been forced to move over and over again. Our season ticket holders are marked on the floor in front of the seat. Is that not obvious enough?

Anonymous said...

I hope the majority of these comments are from kids under the age of 10....because that's the kind of stuff i would expect to hear on an elementary playground. Immaturity on both sides.....but great hockey on the ice!

swkot said...

Silly me, I didn't realize it's tonight's game that the terrier fans are boycotting!

Anonymous said...

Well seriously swkot, how many games can you go to just to watch what the security is doing? Plus, then you have to whine about relentlessly for two days afterwards.

Anonymous said...

So Steiner, be honest...were you hoping this series would end tonight? Give you more time off to spend with the family instead of at the rink.

Anonymous said...

Don't answer ^ comment. As he as said time and time again he enjoys calling for both teams. Grow up people.

Anonymous said...

^^^ Uh, I don't need to grow up. You just need to learn how to comprehend what I'm saying here. All I'm saying is I would think it would good to have time away from the rink...even if the Terriers were up 3-1, I would be thinking...great, maybe some time at home.

Craig Stein said...

Ya I don't think he was asking who I'm pulling for, just asking if I was hoping for a short series.

Truthfully, going into the series I was hoping for Game 7 overtime!

But now that i'm making pancakes in pajama pants, I can handle a Saturday off! (Regardless who won)
