TIED AGAIN!

The Wayway Wolverines went into Dauphin and beat the first place Kings 4-2 on Tuesday, to pull even with the Swan Valley Stampeders for the Sherwood Division's final playoff spot.

All 6 goals were scored on special teams. The Wolverines scored twice on the powerplay, and twice on the penalty kills, while Dauphin notched a pair of third period powerplay goals.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 3-0 first period lead, and controlled the first 20 minutes, out-shooting the Kings 25-11.

Wayway took an early penalty, but Richard Little found Ashley Howie, who scored on a short-handed breakaway 2:16 into the contest, Howie's team-leading 24th goal of the season.

They followed that up with 2 powerplay goals less than 2 minutes apart, both from defensemen, Steven Duda and Stephane Robidoux.

The second period was scoreless, and Tanner Butler got Dauphin on the board early in the third.

Then, on the penalty kill again, Dauphin had goaltender Dawson Guhle on the bench, and Shane Goodrunning won a race to a lose puck in Dauphin's end, and stuffed home his 23rd of the season.

Calvin Cairns took advantage of a funny bounce to round out the scoring just 9 seconds after Goodrunning's goal.

Cory Simons made 38/40 saves for the win.

Wayway and Swan are dead-even in points, with 58, and records of 25-27-8, both with 2 games to play.

Swan's home to OCN tonight (GX94), Wayway's in Neepawa tomorrow (THU), Swan's at Dauphin on Friday, and Wayway hosts Dauphin Saturday.

The Melville Millionaires finished up their SJHL regular season with a win, downing the Notre Dame Hounds 5-3.

The three members of Melville's top line all ended the season one goal short of huge plateaus. Ian McNulty scored twice, giving him 39 on the season, and 86 points, which ranked him tied for 2nd in the SJHL with Blake Tatchell, 5 points back of scoring champ Jesse Ross from Weyburn.

Jesse Mireau also scored twice in the season finale, leaving him with 29 goals and 71 points. Russell Trudeau was held off the scoresheet and also finished with 29 goals, in just 41 games.

Tyson Newell had three assists, and finished with 54 points (10g-44a) in 57 games, to lead all SJHL defensemen. He had 13 more points than anyone else.

The Millionaires finished the regular season with a record of 29-21-4-4, good for 66 points, 5 fewer than Yorkton, their Round 1 opponent.

The Mils visit the Terriers for Game 1 of their Sherwood Conference Semi-Final on Friday, March 2nd.
