STAMPS OFF TO THE PLAYOFFS AFTER WIN IN DAUPHIN

The Swan Valley Stampeders are heading to the playoffs, after finishing the regular season with a 4-1 win in Dauphin over the first place Kings.

Riley Hiebert sealed it with a powerplay goal in the 3rd period, and added one assist. Other Swan goals came from Justin Valentino, Beau Taylor and Peter Horecka. Landon Peel added a pair of assists.

Shots were 39-32 Swan Valley, with Jayson Argue making 31 saves in the win.

The Stampeders will face the OCN Blizzard in Round 1 of the playoffs, beginning next weekend.

The Stamps' win eliminated the Wayway Wolverines from the playoffs, but the Wolverines fell 4-3 in a shootout in Neepawa.

Jean-Michel Naud, Ashley Howie and Richard Little all scored for Wayway.

Howie, Little, Shane Goodrunning, Connor Pennell, Tyler Posch, Stephane Robidoux, Steven Duda, Bobby Janzen and Pierre Landry will all play in their final Junior games on Saturday.

A very talented group, that had a tough December/January, which took them from challenging OCN for 2nd, to fighting for their playoff lives in a hurry.

I feel for the Wolverines big time. For a while, they looked out of the race, and charged back thanks to 3 wins in 4 tries against Swan in a two week span, and a huge win in Dauphin earlier this week. Had Dauphin beat Swan tonight, the Wolverines still could have got in, with another win over Dauphin on Saturday.

I was hoping whoever got in would get 3rd place outright, not tied, and that will happen now, as the Wolverines are 3 points back with one game left.

Swan would have got in by winning one game in a shootout in the regular season. Wayway actually won more games in regulation, head to head with Swan.
