Monday Update

- We're not Banjo pickers... we're Buck Pierce pickers! Rider rookie safety Craig Butler rocked Pierce in the first quarter, and Pierce never appeared to be the same after that... throwing for 5 interceptions, including two to Butler. Darian Durant threw for 4 touchdowns, and Wes Cates ran for one, as the Riders beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 45-23 in the Banjo Bowl. It was 45-17 before Bomber backup Alex Brink found Terrence Edwards open in the endzone in the final minute.

- I can't believe the SJHL and MJHL regular seasons are 4 days away! Man that snuck up! I'm off to Weyburn with the Terriers on Friday as we crack the lid on our broadcast schedule. Melville @ Notre Dame next Tuesday is our second broadcast, and then nothing until the following Tuesday, in Dauphin with Wayway, and in OCN with Swan Sep/30, as we'll get each of our four teams on the air in our first four broadcasts.

- It was lots of fun calling a night football game on Friday. The Yorkton Regional Raiders beat the Regina Martin Monarchs 41-0 to even their record at 1-1. It was FUN, but DIFFICULT. The rented lights were good for the game play itself, but from the booth, there were some dark pockets on the field, and Martin's dark green jersies with black numbers were literally impossible to make out. I felt bad, because I dropped few if any names. Add to the fact that they ran a bunch formation with a lot of dives up the middle... I really couldn't tell who had the ball and what number! The Raiders Orange/White combo was a lot easier to read.
