So You're Tellin' Me There's a Chance....

If a whole lot of things don't go right for the Yorkton Cardinals in the next two days, they'll finish out of the playoffs this year.

The Cards gave up 7 runs in the 5th inning against Regina last night, falling 8-2 to the East Division-leading Red Sox.

Ghazalea Sailors pitched the final inning and a third, allowing just one baserunner, and says IF that was her final action on home field this season, it's a nice way to wrap it up.

"It's a good way to finish. I've always felt like I've had support and was really accepted at home. I was at home, really. I'd love to be back here next year."

The Cardinals trail the Weyburn Beavers by 2.5 games, and they're in Weyburn tonight... needing a win.

If they get it, in order to make the playoffs, here's what would have to happen tomorrow.

Weyburn would have to lose their final game of the season to Moose Jaw... and Yorkton would have to first, have the Edmonton Prospects agree to host the Cardinals for a make-up double header.

Yorkton would have to go to Edmonton tomorrow, win both games, and they'd be tied with Weyburn.

The first tie-breaker is head-to-head wins. A Yorkton win tongiht, and that would be tied 3-3.

Then, it's head to head runs for and against. As of right now, the Cardinals have out-scored Weyburn 30-28 in their 5 meetings, which means a win tonight would secure the Cardinals the tie-breaker.

That's a lot of things that need to go right, but it starts with getting a win tonight in Weyburn.

An individual milestone could also happen for the Cards tongiht. James Green stole two bases last night, giving him 34 on the season... leaving him just one short of the WMBL record of 35, and of course this COULD be the Cards' final game in the season, and Green's last chance to enter the record book.

The Okotoks Dawgs completed a four game Yorkton-Melville swing, and never lost a game, finishing a with a 10-5 victory last night in Melville.

Jake Inbody was 4-for-5 with 2 RBI's, while Jon Clark hit his 9th HR of the season.

The Mils finish the regular season in Regina tongiht... and they still have no idea who they'll face in Round 1 of the playoffs... it could be any of Swift Current, Weyburn or Moose Jaw.

In all honestly, Melville would be better off losing in Regina tonight... because if Regina finishes first in the league, the Mils would have home field against Weyburn or Moose Jaw in Round 1.

If Okotoks ends up on top, the Mils would be off to Swift Current to start the playoffs this weekend.

That's not to say the Millionaires would throw tonight's game... they've lost 3 in a row, and would like some momentum heading into the playoffs.
