Thursday's Local Action

South East Senior Baseball League
Yorkton Jr Cardinals @ Parkland Padres 8:00

The Junior Cardinals are the two-time defending champs, and are off to a hot start, with a 22-2 win over Swan, and a 9-7 decision over Canora to sit 2-and-0. This is the Padres' first game of the regular season. They're a 35+ team who just plays each team once to tune up for 35+ provincials. Last night, the Yorkton Yankees improved to 1-and-1 with a 14-8 win over the Melville Bison. That was Melville's first game of the SESBL season.

Prairie Gold Lacrosse League
Yorkton Bulldogs @ Regina Rifles 7:30

The Bulldogs hope to put their season-opening 10-2 loss to the Regina Riot behind them as they head back to the Queen City tonight. The 'Dogs are scheduled to play their first two home games on Sat/Sun May 28th/29th against Moose Jaw and Estevan... but when I talked to coach Joe Choptuik before the season started, he expected the Saturday game with Moose Jaw to be re-scheduled due to Sacred Heart High School grad that day.

Spring Exhibition Football
Brandon Crocus Plainsmen @ Yorkton Gridders 4:00

Yorkton had a spring High School Football program this year, with players from both the YRHS and SHHS. They've practiced three times a week, and will host Brandon at Century Field today. They'll split into into two age groups and have two games simultaneously, with a Bantam game, and a Senior game. Yorkton Coach Roby Sharpe calls them "Super Scrimmages", meaning offense and defense, with little to no special teams.
