When the complicated Battlefords-Kindersley-Melville three-way trade happened at about 11:55 PM on January 10th... the Millionaires ended up with Regina Pats' rookie Michael Sagen, whose SJHL rights were initially with Battleford. The North Stars got Braeden Johnson and Lance Tabin from Kindersley... while Melville owed Kindersley a "mutually agreed upon player" in the off-season.
Or something like that!
That player is Dayton Reinboldt, who put up 34-points in 35-games with the Swift Current Legionnaires in the SMAAAHL, before becoming a full time Millionaire once his second semester of Grade 12 started in late January. In blue and white, Reinboldt had a goal and an assist in 9 games.
For the Fox Valley product, Reinboldt will play closer to home with the Klippers... and there's no question the Mils will miss him. They clearly had him pegged as a top prospect, by bringing him up as an underager.
But, the deal still left them with a promising, and bigger Michael Sagen, who also had great AAA numbers as a 16-year-old. Both Sagen and Reinboldt are 1993-born forwards, entering their 18-year-old season. Mils' Coach/GM Jamie Fiesel expects Sagen to go to Regina Pats camp, but says both sides are interested in Sagen being a Millionaires this upcoming season if that doesn't work out.
