(Forwards Justin Valentino and Sam Briscoe, and defenseman Riley Hiebert have committed to the Swan Valley Stampeders for the 2011/12 season)
Swan Valley Stampeders' GM Guy Vestby announced three signings for the upcoming season today. All three are 1993-born players, going into their 18-year-old seasons.
Justin Valentino was the leading scorer in the MBAAAHL for most of the season, until he was caught right at the end of the campaign, but still finished 2nd overall in the league, with a remarkable 65 points (23g-42a) in 44 games with the Norman Northstars. Valentino skated with the Stampeders for two regular season games, and picked up three points, including a goal and an assist in his MJHL debut in OCN, where the 17-year-old forced overtime with a late tying goal, and set up Brad McDonald for the OT winner.
The Stampeders haven't had very many Winnipeg products on their roster in recent years, but they've signed a point-per-game forward from the big city in Sam Briscoe. Briscoe had 22g-21a-43p in 44 games for the Winnipeg Wild of the MBAAAHL last season.
Defenseman Riley Hiebert joined the Stamps late in the regular season last year, after leaving AAA Midget early. In Midget, he put up 15 points (7g-8a), and racked up 92 PIMs with the Pembina Valley Hawks. In 10 games with the Stampeders, Hiebert had 3 assists.
