Stampeders Steal The Show Despite Sherwood Loss

Shelby Gray, Ryan Marshall and Clark Byczynski of the Swan Valley Stampeders suited up for the Sherwood Division in last (WED) night's MJHL All-Star Game in Swan River, and the three of them combined to put up 11 points in a 16-11 loss to the Addison Division.

Marshall had 5 points, including 2 goals, Gray scored a hat trick and added an assist, while Byczynski chipped in a pair of helpers from the blue line.

Wayway Wolverines defenesman Stephane Robidoux also had two assists, while forwards Paul Van de Velde and Shane Goodrunning were held off the scoresheet.

Five different members of the Addison Division roster had 4 point nights. Winkler's Chapen Leblond led the way with 3 goals and an assist.

The Addison exploded for 10 goals in the second period alone, while the final shots on goal were 65-63 in favour of the Sherwood.

The MJHL takes tonight (THU) off, with both of our local teams back on home ice tomorrow (FRI), when Swan Valley entertains Portage (7:20/7:30 GX94), and Wayway welcomes the Winnipeg Blues.

I was in Lebret Wednesday night, and called an entertaining 7-4 Ochapowace Thunder win over Fort Knox.

Ochapowace stormed out to a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes of play, before Fort Knox rallied to make it 4-3 through 2 periods. The Thunder put the game away with three third period goals.

Devin Laurent scored twice for Ochap, while Branden Whitehawk, Kale Haylock, Wyndon Cyr, Jordan Smith and Mike Kenny added singles.

Defenseman Zach Watson notched a pair for Fort Knox. Landon Minto and Scott Mills had the others.

Other things of note from Wednesday night.... the Kindersley Klippers blasted Nipawin 6-2, and they're now back to just 4 points back of the first place Terriers, with one game in hand. Johnny Calkins is unconscious right now... 4 more points for the big Klipper centreman. Notre Dame earned a point with a shootout loss in Humboldt. They climb to within 5 points of Melville for 5th... but the Mils now have 3 in hand... and they host the Hounds Friday night. I think a Mils' win effectively does it for the Hounds, while an ND victory could make the Millionaires think twice about booking playoff tickets. The two clubs meet three more times, with two of them in Melville, and a Valentine's Day meeting in Wilcox. Sorry Wifey!
