Looking at the game sheet I'm a little sorry I missed Friday's matchup between the Terriers and the Flin Flon Bombers, not only because the Terriers broke out of a 7 game winless streak, but it looks like things got a little heated at the end!
Two fights, goalies leaving their creases, and most importantly a 4-0 win for the first place Terriers on home ice.
Friday nights off are few and far between, so it was "movie night" tonight! ("Easy A": not for kids, and I'm not sure mature adults would like it either. I did!) Might have to check out Saturday's rematch, and the tribute to Myles Cameron before hand.
The Terriers kicked off their 4 game homestand with their first win since December 17th, blanking the Bombers 4-0, thanks to 30 saves from Warren Shymko, who earned his second shutout of the season, and of his Junior career.
The Terriers fired no less than 16 shots a period at Flin Flon's P.J. Musico, finishing with 51 on the night.
Justin Buzzeo had a goal and two assists, Jeremy Boyer and Blaine Tendler each scored and added a helper, while rookie Kyle McLeod rounded out the Terriers' scoring.
For Boyer, it was his 30th goal of the season, and Buzzeo's 25th... and both newcomers have points in all 3 games they've played in as Terriers.
Clarke Breitkreuz and Justin Lamontagne were both involved in fights at the 16:58 mark of the third, when both goalies were also charged with leaving the crease. And I always forget, if it's TWO fights, or MORE THAN TWO fights at the same time, that brings about automatic suspensions to everyone involved. Here's hoping Breitkreuz and Lamo don't have to sit.
Another positive, was Robbie Ciolfi returning to the Terrier lineup. He'd been out since getting an upper body injury in the December 30th game against Melville.
It's only one game, but it could be just what the Terriers needed to get back on track. A fairly convincing win, and some emotion at the end.
The two clubs do it all over again tonight (SAT), 7:30 at FAA.
- The win gets Yorkton back to 6 points up on Kindersley for top spot, after the Melfort Mustangs did the Terriers a favour and beat the Klippers 4-3 on Friday. Ex-Melville Millionaire Cody Hanson scored twice in his Mustangs' debut, and both were assisted by Brayden Metz. Hanson and Metz grew up playing together, but seemed to have the best success while playing on different lines in Melville... Feez tried them together a few times and it didn't seem to mesh. So far so good in Mel-North! Definitely my new favourite team in the Bauer... oh, and they're coming to Yorkton on Tuesday.
================
The Wayway Wolverines are back to just 4 points out of a playoff spot, after a huge 5-3 win in Neepawa.
The Wolverines trailed 1-0 after the first period, but tacked on two second period goals, and three in the third.
Shane Goodrunning and Josh Daley scored two goals each. For Goodrunning, it gives him a team-best 31 on the season, while Daley has 3 goals in 2 games since coming over from Dauphin on deadline day.
Brett Pinkerton had a goal and two assists, while defenseman Stephane Robidoux put up 4 assists, and Paul Vandevelde set up a pair.
Brett Gagnon made 22 saves in the win, while former Wolverine Riley Feser made 34 saves against his former club.
The Wolverines host Neepawa tonight (SAT), with a chance to close the gap to just two points.

As usual the negative pricks about the Terriers nowhere to be found. They played very good against a very good Flin Flon team. Hopefully they've played through there downslide and will continue on there winning ways.
