A lopsided loss, a shootout win, and a gut-wrenching overtime loss for three local teams in action on Friday night.
Positive first.....
The Wayway Wolverines allowed the Winnipeg Blues to come back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits, but managed to win 3-2 in a shootout.
Josh Daley scored both Wayway goals, and added the shootout winner. Ryan Benitez got the win, making 29 saves.
The Wolverines are now just one game under .500, and three points back of Neepawa for a playoff spot.
I said on the air in Swan that Wayway needed two points if they have any plans of making a post season push, and one wouldn't be good enough. Friday's game was the most winable game they had remaining on their schedule. Not a slight against the Blues, but they've been battling with Steinbach in the Addison cellar most of the year, and sold their veteran talent January 10th. The Wolverines are last in a tight Sherwood, but added veteran talent at both the December 1st (Benitez) and January 10th (Daley) deadlines.
Wayway's home again tonight, against the Selkirk Steelers... the team they'll likley face if they can get a playoff spot.
----------------
In Swan Valley, the Stampeders and Portage Terriers played to a scoreless first period, before Portage racked up 6 second period goals. Brent Wold had three of them, and one assist, while Kajon McKay had a goal and three helpers.
Swan Valley won the third period 3-1, but lost the game 7-3, and seeing every other Sherwood team that was in action win on Friday, they're quickly falling out of contention for home ice in the playoffs, and are narrowly ahead of Neepawa (3 points) and Wayway (6 points).
Tony Partridge, Ryan Marshall and Taylor Epps scored Swan Valley's second period goals. The Stamps host the Terriers again tonight.
----------------
The Melville Millionaires looked to be in firm control of their home game against Notre Dame, up 3-0 after two periods, only to watch the Hounds score three third period goals, and win it in overtime.
Mark Owen scored twice for Melville, Godric Tham had the other, and Michael Rogoschewsky had two assists.
A regulation win for Melville would have started to bury the Hounds, but Notre Dame's now just 4 points back of the Mils for the final playoff spot in the Sherwood. Melville does have three games in hand.
Kindersley beat Estevan 4-2 on Friday. Bad for Yorkton, who are now just two points up on the Klippers for 1st, but good for Melville, who are now within 4 points of 4th place Estevan with 2 in hand.
The Millionaires travel to Humboldt tonight.

Two days of curling are in the books at Men's Northerns in Unity and Southerns in Weyburn... and all three local rinks are in the 'B' event, and very much in contention to advance to the Provincial Tankard in North Battleford next month.
In Unity, Yorkton's Gerry Adam won his second straight game on Friday morning, but dropped his evening draw to Dale Craig 8-3, and is now down to the 'B' event, where he'll continue play today (SAT) at 12:30.
In Weyburn, Langenburg's Jeff Hartung beat Ron Lucas 10-4 in the afternoon, and also downed Al Schick 8-6 in the evening. Whitewood's Jason Krupski got past Jamie Schneider 9-8 in the evening draw. Hartung and Krupski square off against eachother today (SAT) at 12:30. The winner goes to the 'B' final, while the loser will be one loss away from elimination.

Off topic, but how can I access the online scoring for the MJHL on my Sasktel Blackberry?? I can't seem to get it anymore. Since the new format. Any tips would be appreciated.
Hmm... I would have thought you could click on SCORES on the top bar, or where it says Real Time Scores on the right side. I'm able to on my phone but I switched from SaskTel to Virgin Mobile when I got my BB, not sure if thatd make any difference.
The new MJ site's navigation is pretty bad on a normal computer, and is way worse on a BB. Involves a tonne of scrolling, up and down, and left to right, especially in each summary.
Part of the problem is the age of my Blackberry. The newer ones work better/faster. Still it sucks that I am no longer able to access the MJHL scores after having a family member play in it for 3 years and others that we know and continue to cheer for in the league now.
Last night we were at a game in Regina and following games in BC (U of R Cougars), Minnesota (Concordia Cobbers)and getting text updates from a couple other games. Couldn't access the scores for the MJ though.
