Jahraus, Mils Part Ways

20-year-old goaltender Kyle Jahraus is no longer with the Melville Millionaires. He's gone home to Saskatoon to await a trade, and Millionaires' Coach/GM Jamie Fiesel says it was a mutual agreement.

"We had expectations of him, and he had expectations of us, and it just didn't work out. Plus with the emergence of Zach Rakochy, showing he can be a number one goalie, it's very frustrating for a 20-year-old to see that happen. We've agreed we're going to move Kyle on, we've had talks with some teams, and we want to give him a new opportunity in his final season of junior to play more and feel more comfortable in his role. So he's chosen to go home to wait for a deal to happen."

The Millionaires acquired Jahraus from La Ronge for the rights to Logan Herauf during the summer, a trade which appeared to be a steal for Melville, since Herauf was playing with New Mexico of the North American Hockey League. However, Herauf's back in the SJHL, putting up roughly a point-per-game with the Ice Wolves, and Jahraus is no longer on the Mils' roster.

He had a record of 4-8, a 4.05 GAA, and a .882 sv% during his time in Melville, which did include some positives... like a 30+ save performance in his first game in Yorkton, a 2-1 (SO) win, likely his best performance in blue and white.

Before last night's game in Weyburn was postponed, Fiesel had planned to call up David Dempster from the PJHL's Regina Capitals to backup Rakochy, but the Mils' Coach/GM knows they need a permanent fix.

"With the Dawson Guhle (former Regina Pat, traded to Red Deer) situation, we thought we might have a quality goalie come in there, but that fell through. We're talking to some teams in the league with three goalies right now, and by Friday we expect to have someone in here."

The Millionaires host the Yorkton Terriers on Friday, before returning to Yorkton on Saturday night.

We'll preview the weekend with Fiesel and Terrier GM Don Chesney on the Robin's Roundtable from 7:00 - 7:30 Thursday night, live from Robin's Donuts in Melville.

I wonder if Feez is trading goalie for goalie? or if he will bring in a tender while making some other moves... could be interesting. (Bring in another young goalie and trade Jahraus for a solid d-man. my 2-cents) Easier said than done.

Not sure how hugh his value is right now... I wouldn't be shocked if the deal is for cash. 4 months ago he's a WHL goalie worth Logan Herauf, but I'm not sure anyone would part with a solid Dman for a 20 year old goalie who lost a starting role to a 17 year old, as capable as Kyle might be. He could very well go somewhere else and be lights-out, and I hope he does for his sake!

There are a few teams in the leauge that have 3 goalies. Battlefords (Birch,Hildebrand,Sirard), Kindersely (Peck,Mcdonald,Nickle),
Weybrun (Kilgore,Hengen,Marks), Melfor (Corsi,Ehnisz,Hudon) are any of these guys worth taking?

At this point I'm sure Feez wouldn't go with another 20 year old tender. Rokochy will get the bulk of the minutes from here on out I would assume.

I like Hudon. That's interesting. Low risk option there. Missed opportunity for Jahraus. He had more than a fair shake, in my opinion. I still only see Rakochy as a 1A type goalie at this point. I wonder if Notre Dame would part with Smidt or Abbott?

Hey Craig, do you know anything about Dayton Reinboldt on the Mils roster? I see he played one game, must have been on the road trip. Looks like he plays 'AAA' in Swift. I'm wondering if he will be around permanently or just an 'AP'

- Smidt/Abbott are likely worth roster players in return and I'm not sure Feez wants to part with his youth this year. Their '92's are as good as any, I think. I'd bet on Sirard, Marks, or one of Melfort's 3 not named Corsi. Someone willing to take a 40/60 split with Zach.

- Reinboldt just AP'd, that's why he's on the roster on the site, same as T. Metz. Sounded like Reinboldt could have played in Melville this season but chose to go home to finish AAA... was also a fairly late cut in Chilliwack by the sounds of it. I'd say odds are good he'll be a Millionaire next year at 18.
