Friday's Hockey Matchups

Here's a chunk of my noon sports on GX94 today.

-----------------

The Swan Valley Stampeders remain in first place in a shoulder-to-shoulder MJHL Sherwood Division.

The Stamps are tops with 23 points, and they've got just a one point lead on Portage and OCN, a 3 point edge on 4th place Dauphin, and they're only 4 points ahead of 5th place Neepawa.

Add the fact the Stampeders have lost 4 of their last 5, and this weekend's home and home with Dauphin becomes pretty important.

The Stamps swept the Kings four weekends ago, by scores of 2-1 and 3-1... so Swan Valley GM Guy Vestby knows revenge will be on the minds of the Kings.

"Last time we met, we both had a few guys out of the lineup, they likely had even more than we did, so we know they'll be coming in looking for payback, and we're trying to stay patient and get by without (Ryan Marshall, Jeff Peel) in the lineup. We've played pretty solid at home and hopefully we can start the weekend off with a good showing in their rink."

Catch all the action tonight with Yorkton Dodge Jr HOckey on GX94. Pre Game Show at 7:20, PBP at 7:30 MB time.

------------

In the SJHL... the Yorkton Terriers are in La Ronge tongiht for the first time since Game 5 of last year's league final.

The Terriers are 2-and-1 so far on their current 9-game stretch away from home, and battle the defending champion Ice Wolves tonight and again tomorrow.

Terrier Coach Trent Cassan says flashing back to last year's final is probably a sure thing for those who were there.

"I'm sure they will, but really there's so many new faces on our team now and guys who weren't part of that squad. It's a tough place to play, we found that out last year, and we need a solid, gritty effort from everyone in order to get any points out of there this weekend."

These are Yorkton's 4th and 5th straight road games, so they'll be halfway through their trip when they return. The Terriers next home game is still a while off... November 12th against Estevan.

The Melville Millionaires are on home ice tonight and tomorrow against Flin Flon... with 7:30 starts both nights.

The Mils are last in the Sherwood Conference, and have yet to put back to back wins together this season. They were shutout 3-0 in Notre Dame in their last action on Tuesday.

Nipawin Hawks @ Estevan Bruins 7:30
