I was at the Rider game, so I gotta start with that.
Rider fans have reason to believe once again, after a 43-37 (OT) win over the first place Calgary Stampeders. However, OT should never have happened. The Rider coaching staff somehow had it in their heads that a 48-yard punt is easier than a 35-yard field goal to win the game. Luca Congi had just drilled a 44-yarder through the uprights at the same end of the field to tie the game, and after over-thinking the situation... they throw Eddie Johnson out there to go for a punt single to win. He didn't get all of it, but it was still an absolute bonehead call. Did they forget the endzone is 20 yards deep in Canada? He got it 5 or 10 yards across the goal line, and it was easily run out to force OT.
Luckily the Riders found enough fire in them to go back onto the field, engineer another TD, and the defense stopped Calgary at 3 yard line to get back into the win column. They're now 6-and-0 at Mosaic Stadium and 7-and-4 overall.
Still, I feel for Luca Congi, and think that'll be in the back of his mind for a while.
Oh well... THEY WON!
