Terriers Earn Split With Mils; Stamps Beat Dauphin

Saturday's Highway 10 rematch was a little more like what I was expecting, a low-scoring, tight-checking affair, as the Yorkton Terriers held off the Melville Millionaires 2-1, despite getting out-shot 28-19.

Devin Peters was solid, making 27 saves in the win, while Chris Jackson suffered his first loss as a Millionaire in 5 games, stopping 17.

Jordan Menke (pictured) scored Yorkton's first goal and set up the other by Brent Struble, both in the first period. Defenseman Jordan Reeve scored a short-handed goal for Melville in the second, before a goal-free and penalty-free third.

The Terrier jump back into 4th place by themselves, two points up on the Millionaires, who still have 2 games in hand.

Melville's in Weyburn on Tuesday (7:20 / 7:30 on GX94)... Yorkton's home to Melfort on Friday.

...Nipawin beat Melfort 2-1 in a shootout, which now has the Hawks one point out of a playoff spot, and believe it or not, 4 points back of second. Check out the Bauer standings at sjhl.ca... they're pretty crazy! Weyburn did the Mils and Terriers a favour with a 3-2 win over Estevan, while Notre Dame beat Flin Flon 5-2 IN Flin Flon. Wow. Hounds are starting to really wrap their grip around 2nd spot.

The Swan Valley Stampeders beat the Dauphin Kings for the third time this season, this time 6-1 at the Centennial Arena. The Stamps are 3-and-2 against the Kings, while 4 of those games were in Swan (Stamps went 3-and-1 at home). Their three remaining meetings are in Dauphin, starting next Friday, January 8th (on GX94).

Ryan Marshall became the third MJHLer to hit the 30 goal plateau, burying 2 on the night. Chris Reimer also notched a pair, and will likely be the fourth player with 30, now with 29. Connor Pennell and Jeff Peel chipped in with some secondary scoring, while Myles Stevens added 2 assists.

Jayme Janzen was less than 3 minutes away from his first shutout of the season, when Dauphin defenseman Tyson Newell beat him. Janzen made 33 saves, as the Stamps out-shot the Kings 39-34.

The Stampeders travel OCN on Wednesday... that game was originally supposed to be on the radio, but we had to re-schedule because it's Ukrainian Christmas Eve and we have programming on the air.

Swan Valley's now 25-13-2-3.

Hey Craig, have you heard anything about this Cody Gross? Just wondering why he wasn't dressed in either game against Yorkton.

I asked Neil before Friday's game and at that point they still werne't sure when, or IF he's coming. I'm sure I'll get a for sure answer when Feez gets back this week.
