Terriers (17-17-3) @ Mils (16-16-2-1)

Who's ready to get back at it? I know I've got the itch to get back in the booth, and there's no question the Yorkton Terriers and Melville Millionaires, with 16 and 12 days between games respectively, are chomping at the bit to hit the ice this weekend.

2009 treated the Mils and Terriers much the same, with both teams entering 2010 at exactly .500. Yorkton's 2 points up on Melville at 17-17-3, while the Mils have two games in hand at 16-16-2-1. They'll still have 2 in hand after the weekend, and a sweep would have them two points up, while a Terrier sweep would leave the Mils 6 points back... quite the 8-point difference!

The Mils owned the head to head meetings in 2006/07 and 2007/08, while the Terriers had a big edge the two seasons before that. This last year and a half though, it's been rare that anyone sweeps the home and home series. Technically it hasn't happened yet this year. The home team won each game in October, while in November, the Mils won twice, but both in overtime, so the Terriers still picked up 2 big points on the weekend. The Terriers then beat Melville 4-3 at the Showcase at the end of November.

Season Series
Yorkton: 2-1-2 (6 of possible 10 pts)
Melville: 3-2 (6 of possible 10 pts)

Mils have out-scored Terriers 19-18

- Terriers' leading goal scorer (15) and point getter (26) Torey Stott will be out for a while after having surgery during the holidays. I wish Torey a speedy recovery, he's a heck of a player. Clarke Breitkreuz is also back in the WHL with Prince George Cougars, which can't exactly help the Terriers' offense, but we'll see who steps up to help fill the voids this weekend.

Stott's scored in all 5 meetings against Yorkton, and has 6g-1a-7p in those 5 games. Justin Hollinger had 5g-2a-7p for Melville against Yorkton to lead the Mils, while Aaron Decorby, now a La Ronge Ice Wolve, also had 5 goals in 5 games for Melville.

Will Cody Gross make his Mils' debut tonight? Guess we'll find out.

Maybe more later... my battery's almost dead and I forgot my cord at work!

Happy New Year!
