With a 5-2 loss at home to Portage on Thursday, the Wayway Wolverines got eliminated from the post season by the defending champion Terriers. Logan Dew and Paul Marcoux scored for Wayway... both guys playing in their final games of Junior 'A' Hockey.
Wolverines' 20-Year-Olds
#6 Cody Danychuk (D) Biggar, SK
#10 Chad Loewen (F) Winnipeg, MB
#11 Logan Dew (F) Windthorst, SK
#13 Brendan Bradbury (D) Winnipeg, MB
#15 Jason Bowles (F) Elkhorn, MB
#19 Am Sidhu (F) Surrey, BC
#26 Paul Marcoux (F) Brandon, MB
That's a lot of punch out of the Wolverines' lineup from next year, with their top 3 scorers (Bowles, Marcoux, Dew), leading goal scorer (Marcoux) and highest scoring defenseman (Danychuk) all moving on. However they will bring a lot of players back, including 5 defenseman, NONE of which will even be 20 next year. Jordan Holovach will be the elder statesman at 19, Dave McKelvey-Gunson and Steven Duda will be 18, while Zach Sweet and Ryan Breen will both be 2nd year guys at the age of 17. In goal, they could potentially have 3 returnees. Injured Deszi Wiens will be 20, as will starter Jayme Janzen, while Carey Dyck will be 19 next season. Upfront, the likes of Niko Grose, Ryan Regel, Jerrett Bicknell, and Richard Little are all eligible to be back to keep the Wolverines competitive, and make a push for a 4th straight playoff appearance. To coaches Barry Butler and Jim Fuyarchuk.... thanks for another season guys!
