Wings 5 - Mils 0

Not much more one can say.

Lost in the shuffle of a circus third period was a Weyburn team who had an outstanding game, and a Melville team that didn't. The Mils' 'D' had two bad giveaways that led to two unassisted Weyburn goals which made it 2-0. The first was a Preston Shupe short-handed goal with 52 seconds left in the first period. Had that goal not happened, I'm not sure it would have been as lopsided, because it was a pretty entertaining, end-to-end first period before that. I'd definitely call that the turning point.

The Message Board quotes me as saying "GX can't believe the number of calls to the Mils." Most of the calls were warranted and I never said that. A couple made me scratch my head, but I also said on the air the Mils gotta be careful and suspensions could happen if they don't. Weyburn made it clear they weren't gonna fight, and a hockey fan's first instinct is to throw out a word that starts with 'p', ends with 'y' and has a whole lot of 'uss' in the middle, but let's face it, it was pretty damn smart. The Red Wings goaded the Mils into 9 third period penalties, where they put the game away with two 5-on-3 goals. Would I have liked to see an actual 'square-off' fight? Absolutely. But I can't argue with Weyburn's third period approach. My hope now is the Mils are so ticked off they'll have a little fire in their bellies for Game 3, and hopefully keep it a little more controlled. Melville's PK was 90% in the playoffs going into this game, while Weyburn's PP was 7.7%. Those numbers are closer to normal now thanks to 12 Red Wings powerplays, and you can't give a team like that all those chances.

I'm out... no audio tonight... I was extremely short on sleep this weekend... talk to you Tuesday from Weyburn.

Hey Craig.

Was the Stadium pretty full tonight? See any Terrier fans?

There, the dust is off now.
Melville a little frustrated? No reason to try to injure players.

Good post Craig. I was at the game and agree with your synopsys of the game. Hopefully game 3 will be back to hockey instead of a circus as you noted.
Also, whats up with online scoring. Shupe got the first goal, not Needham. The 3rd period stats are completely messed up. In Weyburn, I know that the online stats are compared with the actual game sheet before the game is finalized. Maybe all teams should do that.

for what its worth. Had Dean not let #4 Courtney mouth off to the mils bench at the end of the 2nd and then not backed up his words to start the 3rd none of this would have happened. If Courtney gets a 2 or a 10 for unsportsmanlike chances are none of what went down would have. Now i don't condone the mils actions but if dean had control of the game none of this would have happened.....Mils lost this one on their own though.

Aww c'mon, don't blame Courtney, Players on every team mouth off, it happens all through out hockey.
Sounded to me like Dean had control of the game, But the Mils were getting outplayed & outchanced & turned it in to a bush league game. Does Fiesel not have control of his players? Or did he send them out do act like this? All seemed to start happening after he called the time out.. The 3rd period to me on the radio sounded like Gerry James was still coaching there.

Sorry mils4life, no such thing as a penalty for mouthing opponents bench. By the way, Mils have a history, as does every team, of having players that chirp. Don't ask me to name names, I won't do that. Only thing that can stop the chirping is for your team to score. If your players can't take the chirping then i guess they shouldn't be playing hockey.
