Last night was one of the best (maybe the best) games I've seen this season, as the Yorkton Terriers and Weyburn Red Wings went back and forth with the Wings grabbing the extra point with a 5-4 shootout win.
The Terriers never led, but scored 3 tying goals and forced overtime. Greg Coburn was in on all 4 Terrier goals, scoring one, and setting up 3. Bryan Hull, Torey Stott also scored, while it was Jordan Menke scoring his 12th of the year to force overtime with 4:31 left in regulation.
Yorkton won the special teams battle, which often translates to a win, but despite a 3/6 PP and a 5/6 PK, the Red Wings, led by Rhett Bly's goal and 2 assists, managed to pull it out. Preston Shupe notched his 30th of the year for Weyburn, while Tyler Penny scored possibly the nicest goal of the night, and Brock Appleyard also potted a goal.
The Terriers out-shot the Wings 40-37. A.J. Whiffen got the win, making 36 saves, while Devin Peters stopped 33 in the loss. The Terriers are in Estevan tonight (SAT).
