Just Feel Like Talking...

- Not much into action flicks, but "Four Brothers" is a pretty good show. Good thing... because I watched it twice in 6 days on hockey trips. Watched it with Swan Valley on the way back from OCN last Wednesday, then again with the Mils coming home from Weyburn last night.

- Does anyone have a better travel schedule in the SJHL than Yorkton or Melville. For the Mils especially, Weyburn was only 2 hours last night... Estevan a little more... Yorkton's 25 minutes... Notre Dame about 2 hours. Even Melfort and Nipawin are fairly quick trips for being out-of-conference. Then of course KIN/BAT, LAR/FF/, but those are all done in overnight trips. Infact both Melville and Yorkton are done with Flin Flon and La Ronge already.

- I won't lie, I was a little gassed from 2 Portage trips in a week. The nearly 4 hour trek is the longest I have to drive alone on my schedule, and I did it twice in 7 days, and 3 times in 3 weeks. Just looked at the schedule... thinking it must be a while before I'm there again... and... I'm DONE going there this season. Hopefully I'm doing games there in the post season though... because they're the team to beat in that league. I tried adding it up. When I worked in Dauphin in 05-06, Dauphin/Portage met in the first round and went 6 games... I did all 4 meetings in the season plus the 3 playoff games... then last year I did roughly another 7... and already 3 this year. That's approximately 17 times I've made the Portage la Prairie trip, and have driven both ways each and every time. Nothin against the Terriers, but it'll be nice to NOT do that trip for the next 3 months... and not during the bad winter driving months.

- I'm going to OCN 5 times this year, but I don't seem to mind that one as much. Probably because it's broken up into halves. I only have to drive for 1:45 of the 4 hr jaunt. The other 2:15 is on a bus. The Stampeders are kind enough to let me meet them at the rink, and same thing if it's Wayway. I meet the Wolverines for lunch at the Westwood Inn in Swan (which they cover), and hop on the bus the rest of the way. It's the drive from Swan to Yorkton at 3am that seems to take forever.

- At 16-2-2, I still don't think the Melville Millionaires THINK they're world beaters. They know they can play better, and they also know they've yet to see the Kindersley Klippers (and they will Thursday/Saturday), or the Humboldt Broncos (not until December 6th and 9th). But with last night's win in Weyburn, the Mils now own a winning percentage of .850%. Impressive. That Weyburn game kicked off a stretch of 7 straight games against Sherwood opponents for the Mils (Weyburn-Kindersley-Kindersley-Weyburn-Weyburn-Yorkton-Yorkton). Now THAT will go to show who's hot and who has work to do. I can't wait for Thursday's game. It's not on the radio but I'll be there.

- If the SJHL season ended today, Yorkton would play Estevan in the Survivor Series. Again. Only this time the Terriers would have home ice advantage, after winning the series in 6 games last season, winning Game 1 on the road 7-1 to set the tone. If the Terriers were to win that series again, guess who they'd meet in the first round. Yep. Again.

- Yorkton's very close to welcoming back Bryan Hull. That'll give the Terriers a HUGE boost in both the offensive and leadership categories. I really think Yorkton will be right in the mix with MVL/WEY/KIN before too long. Heck, they already are.

- This weekend is one of about 3 weekends all year where I don't have a broadcast from Friday to Sunday, so I'm homeward bound Friday after work. I'd love to watch all 3 Kindersley games this weekend, but I'm gonna head to the farm, watch some football on Saturday, etc. Gotta sprinkle in those little breaks throughout the season or you'd go nuts. The players and coaches do it so why shouldn't the radio guy? Like Jamie Fiesel said, "It's just like the wife or girlfriend, sometimes you just need some time apart, and then you like eachother that much more when you get back."

- I told myself I'd do my Christmas shopping in November this year, because I can't even stand the sight of a mall or even a mall parking lot in December. Haven't started yet. I'm thinking I'll take a weekday afternoon that I don't have a game on, since I work mornings... and get as much done as possible. See what's out there in Yorkton, and maybe even make a Regina trip. We'll see.

Until tomorrow,
CS
