NORTH BATTLEFORD-- The Yorkton Terriers scored two third period goals to force overtime last night against the Kindersley Klippers, before falling 3-2 in a shootout. The Terriers are now 3-0-2 on the season, with 8 points, tying them for second with the 4-0 Melville Millionaires. Kindersley's now first at 4-0-1.
After Kirk Pierce and Steven Turner scored for Kindersley in the first and second periods respectively, the Terriers got third period goals from Jordan Menke and Cody Zubko. The third period belonged to the Terriers, who out-shot the Klippers 16-2 in the final frame (38-28 on the night). Menke's goal came during a 5 minute powerplay, which resulted when goaltender Jordan Barry came out to play the puck and was hit hard by Klipper forward Andrew Herle. Herle got 5 and a game for charging. Derek Derkach stood up for his goaltender and went after Herle. Derkach got 2 for instigating, 5 for fighting, and a 10 minute misconduct. The Terriers wound up with a 3 minute powerplay when it was all said and done. Zubko's goal came on a rebound of a Kirk Byczynski shot, 4 minutes after Menke got the Terriers on the board. In the shootout, Taylor Duzan and Brett Leedahl scored for the Klippers, while Rylan McDonnell scored for Yorkton. Klipper goalie Ryan Nieszner was named 1st star for his 36 save performance.
The Terriers arrived in North Battleford late last night/early this morning as they get set to play the winless (0-3) Stars tonight. Join us for the Pre Game Show at 7:20, Play by Play at 7:30.
I gotta thank most of the Holloway family. Terrier Trainer Ron gave me full access to the club's medicine kit, and I took full advantage, with a nasty head cold/sore throat sneaking up this week. Feel MUCH better now after some Sinutab and Cold FX. And also Brett for doing colour with me in Kindersley, saving my voice a little. Those Holloway's are good people. Speaking of which, Ronnie's pouring me a rum right now. Tune in tonight!
