In what could be a late-season turning point, the Melville Millionaires were blanked 4-0 in Notre Dame.
The Mils managed just 2 first period shots, 8 in the first 40 minutes, while finishing the night with 23.
Russell Abbott might be the SJHL's top goalie, but he didn't have to be stellar in picking up his 3rd shutout of the season. The Millionaires struggled offensively, and the Hounds played as solid of a defensive game as you can play. Notre Dame forwards and defensemen likely blocked more shots than Abbott had to save, and they allowed very few shots on Melville powerplays, which was 0/5, and included back-to-back 5-on-3's midway through the third period.
The Mils and Hounds are now tied for 5th, and the Hounds have the tie-breaker, which is apparently head-to-head first. The season series ended up tied, but because the Hounds won by more than two goals, they win the goals for and against tie-breaker.
That forces the Mils to finish with more points than the Hounds in order to make the playoffs. Melville does have a game in hand. ND has 3 games left, the Mils have 4: @HUM, @WEY, vsLAR, @EST. Notre Dame finishes with @EST, vsHUM, @WEY.

If ND gets in Abbott could a difference against any team in this division, hes the real deal!
I think Melville is in trouble now, they have tough games left.
How about that Bird kid..Saw the fight clip on CTV last night the hounds guy didn't stand a chance!
Craig, if the tie breaker is head to head, would the Mils not win by virtue of an OTL? By my count the Mils are 3-2-1, ND is 3-3. If the league only looks at wins, whats the point of getting a point in the shootout or overtime loss? The Terriers took the Parks cup by virtue of the same situation (although it has nothing to do with the league).
I was told by a league staff member the first tie-breaker is overall wins, which Melville would have.
But Fiesel said he read the constitution the day of the game in ND, and he said its head to head wins (tied), then head to head goals.
Some clarification with the league Prez may be in order!
