North Stars goalie Kyle Birch helps clean up after a third period melee
Well, let's start with the picture!
Lots of gloves, sticks and helmet, but only one fight was officially called, as linesmen prevented Cody Hanson and Tony Oak from killing eachother. So, no suspensions.
What started it... Dane Bonish was looking for a pass in the neutral zone... which was on its way. Woody Klassen had him lined up, for what might have been a great open-ice hit, had the puck got there... but it didn't, and Klassen planted him.
Hanson went after Klassen, Oak grabbed Hanson, Williamson and Folstad squared off at centre, Bonish grabbed Klassen, and luckily everyone realized in time that Williamson/Folstad were already going, and made sure they didn't make it a multiple fight situation.
The game... the Mils were probably the best team in the first 10 minutes. Actually they WERE... we're watching the film right now!
The next 30 minutes belonged to the Battlefords North Stars, and they scored 2 late first period goals, 4 more in the second, and led 6-0 after two, and beat Melville 7-4.
The positive to build on was Melville's rookies in the third period. It started with Jordan Paddock's first SJHL goal. The 17 year old defenseman banked on off of Kyle Birch from behind the goal line to make it 6-1. Then the Mils' (so called) 4th line of three rookies, Andre Parker, Godric Tham and Connor Lowe-Wylde, took the period over, scoring three times. Tham had 1g-2, L-W had 1g-1a, while Parker had a spirited scrap with Travis Cech, and added two assists.
Zach Rakochy gave up 4 goals on 24 shots, and Alex Sirard let in 3 on 23.
The Mils are in Kindersley Saturday, and the Klippers have won 8 straight.
