Mils Streak Snapped at 8; Cards Win 4th Straight

Our two local ball teams might be the two hottest in the Western Major Baseball League.

The Yorkton Cardinals have now won 4 straight, and 6 of their last 7, after a 13-2 win in Melville last night. The loss for the Millionaires snapped an 8 game winning streak, which included a double-header sweep over first place Regina on the weekend.

6 Cardinals had 2 hits or more... catcher Jake Bailey was the only one with 3 hits... he went 3-for-6 with 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Jon Mihic, Preston Lyon, Dave Kaplan, Nic Lindsay and Bart Steponovich all picked up 2 base knocks.

The Cards were up 9-1 after two innings, and starting pitcher Max McDonald had a 5-0 lead before he set foot on the mound... and he cruised from there, giving up just 2 runs on 6 hits over 7 complete innings.

Casey Justice went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Melvillle, raising his average to .386.

Yorkton's now just one game under .500 at 10-and-11... and now host the Mils tonight... 7:05 at Jubilee Park.

- Melville's 8 game winning streak had them breathing down the necks of the first place Regina Red Sox... and are still just a half-game back of the Division lead, after the Sox lost again, 10-0 to the Swift Current Indians.
