Tuesday Thoughts

- Not sure why the blog got almost 500 hits yesterday... but... Thanks! It's nice to see I'm not the only crazy one this excited about hockey season. Even during last year's playoffs though, I think I hit 400 once... and yesterday's 493 is a record, so keep 'em coming!

- Michael Jordan was running away with the Mils captain poll (almost as much as Cody Zubko of the Terriers) shortly after I put it up yesterday... but local product Aaron Decorby has made some ground lately to get into second place. Mils fans have your say in the top right corner if you haven't already.

- All 5 of last night's pre season results from the SJ/MJ are posted below. As of last night the only one online was SV/FF. Thanks to the wonders of text messaging I was able to get the YOR/WAY score from the Yorkton coaching staff... Dan O'Connor's blog got me the BAT/KIN result, while a couple of radio websites found me the others. Golden West Radio stations all have local news/weather/sports websites, and half the reason I started this site was because we don't have anything like that, at least not yet (http://www.gx94radio.com/ is re-launching later this week... and I'm sure some improvements will be made).

Anyway... if you can't find scores, here are some other great local sites, some of which I used to find last night's scores.

- The Message Board Mafia's blasting the Swan Valley Stampeders for dressing several vets against a rookie-laden Flin Flon Bomber lineup. It's the Stamps' 4th pre season game people! What, are they supposed to cater to their opposition because it's their first? They've gotta get their vets in game action sometime, and now they've only got 2 exhibition games left. Pre Season scores are always taken with a big grain of salt exactly for that reason... they mean different things to different teams... some teams might need a longer look at the rookies, while others like to tune up their vets. I don't see why so many people make such a big deal about it. Yeah, it's nice to know the scores, who scored and who played goal, but really, who cares until the regular season?

- Free plug to YORKTON DODGE! They're our title sponsor for all 61 regular season broadcasts and all playoffs games as well. Thanks for coming on board guys! Check out their website at http://www.yorktondodgedealer.com/index.htm.

- I'm not sure why I keep finding myself more things to do during the hockey season, but I did anyway. I'm excited to say I'll be doing some of the writing for the SJHL website this season, along with my colourman Clark Stork. I'm working on my first one right now, about the Humboldt Broncos' dynasty. Expect to see it on sjhl.ca towards the end of this week.

- And, I've rounded up Voice of the Dauphin Kings Kevin Jeffrey and Voice of the OCN Blizzard Jamie Smalley, and the 3 of us (so far, still waiting for word from other radio guys) plan to make a weekly show featuring players/coach's etc in the MJHL, running the shows on our broadcasts, and making them available online (likely here on the blog, maybe on the MJHL site). We'll be sitting down shortly to figure out what the first show's going to be all about.

- My chat with Lynden Sammartino and Wayway's Coach's Show with Barry Butler will both be up later today. Thanks for reading! It's September, which only means one thing... REGULAR SEASON'S coming quick... Sept/11 in Manitoba, Sept/18 in SK.
