- It's opening day for me, and I'm pumped! The Swan Valley Stampeders travel north to OCN to face the Blizzard tonight, in our first YORKTON DODGE Junior Hockey Broadcast of the season. Our full broadcast schedule can be found on the right-hand side of the page, and you can listen live at www.gx94radio.com if you're outside our listening area.
- My Twitter poll only got 25 votes in 4 days, but 20 of them were yes. So, I'll start it up... I'll do a little Pre-Game "Tweeting", and maybe some intermission updates. Obviously if you're at a computer you can either listen or follow along on mjhlhockey.ca, so it'd make no sense to Twitter Live... but I'll provide scratches, etc before the game... tee up intermission guests, and whatever comes to mind. Follow me at www.twitter.com/gx94sports.
- Swan Valley's 1-and-0 after a 4-0 win over Wayway on Saturday night. Myles Stevens, Darcy Riddell, Ryan Marshall and Brent Wilson scored for the Stamps, who went 2/7 on the PP and 5/5 on the PK. Chris Ward is perfect to start the season, stopping all 16 shots he faced. Wilson played the bulk of last season in OCN and will face his old mates tonight.
- Zeanan Buternowski will be known as Zeanan Ziemer this season, putting the name his late father on his sweater for his 20-year-old season. I guess that means that's what I should call him on the air tonight? I'll ask Blizzard Voice Jamie Smalley before the game to be sure. Smalley's blog's also on the right hand side, and you can find Zeanan's full story on one of his posts a week or so back.
- Buternowski/Ziemer leads the league with 5 points (2-3) in 2 games. With 2 goals already, he's got 93 in his MJHL career, now into his fourth and final season. He sniped 45 last year, and will likely hit the century mark before Thanksgiving. He's a treat to watch.
- Safe to assume it'll be Ward vs Aime in the nets tonight? Probably. They are two of the best in the Sherwood and the league as a whole.
- Carter Selinger racked up 3 assists in Swan's 4-0 win on Saturday to lead the team in points early on.
- The Stamps and Wolves had a line brawl involving 4 players from each team. As of now the league hasn't made a ruling, but multiple fight situations always result in suspensions (usually 2 games)... so I would guess the Stamps will be without D Cody Straker (2A on Sat), D Dylan Trowell, F Brad McDonald and F Cramer Coulthart tonight. I'll let you know on Twitter as soon as I know tonight.
- With a 6:00 start Saskatchewan time, I'm going to do the 5:05 Sports Calendar from the GLMC in OCN.
- I've got a few possible intermission guests and haven't decided who I'll run yet. I talked with Wayway Coach/GM Barry Butler this morning on the Wolverines' Coach's Show. Also this morning I chatted with Swan Valley Tigers' Football Coach Rick Wowchuk... might run that, and if not you can hear it at 10:50 tomorrow morning on the East Central 9-Man Report. I might still run our first edition of Inside the MJHL (Show #2 expected to be done by Thursday!), or maybe just the interview with Steinbach Pistons' Coach Rich Gosselin. And I usually talk to a player for the first intermission and I was thinking maybe Chris Reimer today, since his status for the season was up in the air as he was pondering other career opportunities. We do know Coach Dwayne Kirkup will join us during the Pre Game Show for his first edition of the Powell Motors Keys to the Game. And I guess we'll decide today if it'll be Dwayne, Guy, or new Ass't Coach Greg Harris who'll join us Post Game on our Stampeder Broadcasts.
- And I know Matthiew Vigier will be on the minds and hearts of the Stampeders as they go to battle tonight. Matt passed away Saturday night from injuries he sustained in a motor vehicle accident a week earlier. The 15-year-old from Notre Dame, MB was drafted by the Stampeders in the first round, third overall by the Stamps this past June, and also went in the 4th Round of the WHL Bantam Draft to the Moose Jaw Warriors. He was also a younger cousin to former Stampeder Stephan Vigier.
