Mils in WMBL Final!

Thanks in large part to some key Swift Current errors, the Melville Millionaires scored 8 times in the 3rd inning last night, to beat the Indians 9-1, and take the Western Major Baseball League's East Final 3-2.

The Mils lost Games 1 and 2 by a combined total of 30-11, won Games 3 and 4 at home by 3-2 and 5-2 counts, before last night's shellacking in SC. The Indians were 17-3 at home in the regular season, and 20-4 including the playoffs prior to Game 5.

Melville's in Okotoks tonight for Game 1 of the Best-of-Five Championship series.

Game 1: Wed/Aug/12 @ OKO
Game 2: Thu/Aug/13 @ OKO
Game 3: Sat/Aug/15 @ MVL
Game 4: Sun/Aug/16 @ MVL * if nec
Game 5: TBD (either Monday or Tuesday) * if nec

Game 5 Box Score

Mils' 1B Josh Corriea ripped his 6th homerun of the playoffs in the 7th inning to round out the scoring. Corriea's got 17 dingers in 49 games overall this season. That pace would give him 56 in a Major League schedule of 162 games. His 79 RBI's in 49 games (61 reg season, 18 playoffs) would have him on pace for 261 over a Major League sked!

Pitching was once again key as Kevin Crumb shook off allowing Swift's only run of the game in the first inning, going 7 strong while giving up just 3 hits. Coty "Lights-out" Saranthus gave up one hit in the final two innings to shut the door.

Sports fans in Melville have had a lot to cheer about in the spring and summer months. In April, their beloved hockey team faced the Humboldt Broncos in the SJHL Championship.

Fastforward 4 months... and it's the Baseball Mils going for a Western Major Baseball League title, as they'll face that league's top Dawgs from Okotoks.

And, like the Humboldt Broncos, the Dawgs are also going for their third straight championship.
Humboldt got theirs... and this Melville team will try to prevent Okotoks from doing the same.
