Yorkton Cardinals' pitcher Cory McEvoy took a no-hitter into the 8th inning last night... and they lost... 3-1 to the Weyburn Beavers... dropping their record with 16-and-19 with consecutive loss number six.
The Beavers scored twice in top of the first, that was set up by an error and a walk. A ground ball and sac fly later and it's 2-0... and the Cards managed just one run.
McEvoy's line... 2 runs, no earned runs on 2 hits over 7 and 2 thirds. 9 strikeouts and 5 walks.
Yorkton's playing with a shorter bench right now... with Jake Sylvester and Josh Simms leaving due to school reasons... and Mark Magdaleno went home because of an illness in the family. Magdaleno led the Cards with a .300 avg this season.
After briefly holding first place at the end of June, the Cardinals are now 3-and-9 in July, and 1-and-9 in their last 10. They're back in Weyburn tonight, and their final five games of the season are all against last last place teams. Weyburn tonight, Medicine Hat tomorrow (THU), and Saskatoon (3) Sat/Sun/Sun.
