Cards/Mils Tear It Up on the Weekend

The Yorkton Cardinals and Melville Millionaires gained some breathing room atop the WMBL's East Division over the weekend, both playing the Swift Current Indians and Lethbridge Bulls twice, and both winning 3 out of 4.

The Cardinals beat Lethbridge 4-1 Thursday, then knocked off Swift Current twice, 4-3 and 12-4... before falling 9-4 in 10 innings to Lethbridge yesterday afternoon.

Yorkton led 3 times in the game, but the Bulls would tie it one final time in the 8th, before tacking on 5 in the top of the 10th.

But, 3 out of 4 ain't bad, and the Cardinals are now 9-and-6 through 15 games.

Last night it was Garrett Brown leading the way offensively, as he had the night before against Swift Current... going 6-for-7 between Saturday and Sunday... with 5 RBI's, 5 Runs and a home run, lifting his average to .308.

The Cards are scheduled to go to Regina tonight... to start off 8 straight games away from home.

Meantime in Melville, the Mils also went 3-for-4 against 2 of the league's top teams. They beat Lethbridge 4-3 on Friday, then 8-0 Saturday, thanks to a complete game, 6-hit shutout by Kevin Crumb.

Yesterday Melville split with Swift, winning 6-3, and losing 11-7. The Mils managed to crank out 9 hits in each game.

Paul Lamantia hit his team-leading 3rd homerun in the 6-3 win.

The Mils face the Indians again tomorrow... in Swift Current.

Melville's now 7-and-4, tied with Yorkton for 1st.
